CBS News declined to comment on reports of what Pelley said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tBilton has suggested that he\u2019d like this system to generate much more content. \u201cThe show is on the air in the future, one night, one hour every week, and to me there&#8217;s an incredible opportunity to take the show and do loads of things with it,\u201d he told <em>Variety<\/em> last week. Bilton is replacing Tanya Simon, a longtime senior steward of the show and a daughter of one in every of its former correspondents, Bob Simon. Her deputy, Draggan Mihailovich, was also ousted, together with two of the show\u2019s correspondents, Sharyn Alfonsi and Cecilia Vega.<\/p>\n<p>Pelley also demanded to know why CBS News fired former Simon, Alfonsi and Vega, asking Bilton \u201cwhy should we expect any of that is going to be any higher?\u201d Status reported that Bilton attempted to deflect the queries and wound up ending the meeting prematurely. Charles Forelle, a brand new CBS News senior editor, recently hired by Weiss from The Wall Street Journal, told Pelley several times he was being \u201crude,\u201d in accordance with Status, which reported the remarks based on an audio transcript of the meeting it obtained.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tCBS News was desirous to keep Pelley on the show, in accordance with an individual accustomed to the situation. Wertheim didn&#8217;t respond immediately to a question sent Monday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tPelley has a status for tilting at CBS News management when he feels his work or the work of the programs he works on is being undermined. The anchor, a veteran of each \u201c60 Minutes\u201d and \u201cCBS Evening News,\u201d last yr railed against the lack of Bill Owens, the previous executive producer and a detailed colleague, following what many interpreted as interference with this system by previous managers at Paramount.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cParamount began to supervise our content in latest ways. None of our stories has been blocked, but Bill felt he lost the independence that honest journalism requires,\u201d Pelley said during an on-air segment at \u201c60 Minutes.\u201d \u201cNobody here is blissful about it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tJust last week, Pelley got here to the support of a young student journalist who accepted a scholarship finally week\u2019s News Emmys. Santiago Campos, a senior from Washington, D.C.\u2019s District of Columbia International School thanks CBS News for the award, which is made in memory of former \u201c60 Minutes\u201d correspondent Mike Wallace, but said he desired to \u201cacknowledge how the recent direction of the outlet stains the legacy of Mike Wallace, the namesake of this scholarship.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tPelley applauded the speech. \u201cWe sit up for seeing your work in the longer term,\u201d Pelley said. \u201cGod, we want young people such as you right behind us. I do know that Mike Wallace is looking down at you with pride at this very moment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWhile being interviewed on CNN  in 2019, Pelley alleged that\u00a0he was taken off CBS\u2019 evening-news broadcast in 2017\u00a0after raising complaints internally concerning the news division\u2019s workplace culture. \u201cWe\u2019ve been through a dark period of the last several years of incompetent management and form of a hostile work environment throughout the news division,\u201d Pelley said during a segment on the CNN program \u201cReliable Sources.\u201d He added: \u201cI lost my job on the \u2018Evening News\u2019 because I wouldn\u2019t stop complaining to management concerning the hostile work environment.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The brand new head of \u201c60 Minutes\u201d found himself working against the clock in a Monday meeting with staff.
