{"id":345334,"date":"2026-06-04T02:43:57","date_gmt":"2026-06-03T21:13:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ebiztoday.news\/?p=345334"},"modified":"2026-06-04T02:43:57","modified_gmt":"2026-06-03T21:13:57","slug":"forget-backrooms-watch-these-3-great-latest-horror-movies-as-an-alternative","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ebiztoday.news\/index.php\/2026\/06\/04\/forget-backrooms-watch-these-3-great-latest-horror-movies-as-an-alternative\/","title":{"rendered":"Forget Backrooms \u2014 Watch These 3 Great Latest Horror Movies As an alternative"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Horror is more popular than ever in movie theaters right away, with <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2026\/film\/box-office\/backrooms-box-office-record-opening-weekend-obsession-jumps-star-wars-crumbles-1236763355\/\"><em>Backrooms<\/em> and <em>Obsession<\/em> breaking records<\/a> and outgrossing major presumed blockbusters \u2014 including a <em>Star Wars<\/em> flick.<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s true for streaming as well, with a bevy of great, underrated horror flicks set to debut on HBO Max and Hulu throughout June.<\/p>\n<p>A24\u2019s <em>Undertone<\/em> is like <em>Backrooms<\/em>, but set within the podcasting world while packing a scary punch at the tip.<\/p>\n<p>Critics were divided about <em>Keeper<\/em> when it debuted last yr, but I believe its fascinating tackle folk horror makes it worthy of any scary movie binge list.<\/p>\n<p>If you happen to\u2019re a horror fan, you\u2019ve probably watched <em>Midsommar<\/em>, but no summer season could be complete without <a href=\"https:\/\/seventh-row.com\/2020\/11\/06\/florence-pugh\/\">rewatching <strong>Florence Pugh<\/strong> showcase her impressive screaming skills<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<h2>\u2018Keeper\u2019 (2025) \u2014 Hulu<\/h2>\n<figure id=\"attachment_4345868\" style=\"width: 900px;\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\">\n<div class=\"ratio-based-placeholder\" style=\"padding-bottom:62.428571428571%;\"><\/div><figcaption class=\"wp-caption-text\"><span class=\"caption\"><br \/>\n A monster in Keeper.<\/span> <span class=\"credit\">Neon \/ Courtesy Everett Collection<\/span><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>With 2024\u2019s <em>Longlegs<\/em> and 2025\u2019s <em>The Monkey<\/em>, director <strong>Osgood Perkins<\/strong> has been killing it currently, and he serves up one other slice of strange horror with Keeper. To rejoice his first anniversary along with his girlfriend, Liz (<strong>Tatiana Maslany<\/strong>), doctor Malcolm (<strong>Rossif Sutherland<\/strong>) takes her to a secluded cabin deep within the woods. Their romantic idyll is soon disturbed by Malcolm\u2019s cousin, Darren (<strong>Birkett Turton<\/strong>), and his model girlfriend, Minka (<strong>Eden Weiss<\/strong>). When Malcolm abruptly leaves to maintain a patient in town and Minka goes missing, Liz thinks something strange is afoot. Where did Minka go? And what\u2019s up with those unknown creatures following Liz across the cabin?<\/p>\n<p><em>Keeper<\/em> is a slow-burn horror movie that ratchets up the crazy one eyebrow-raising scene after the subsequent. You almost certainly won\u2019t guess what happens in <em>Keeper<\/em>, but when you one way or the other do, I suggest you see a shrink. The movie isn\u2019t for everybody \u2014 it bombed when it was released last November, and it has a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.rottentomatoes.com\/m\/keeper_2025\">so-so 49 percent Rotten Tomatoes rating<\/a>. But I genuinely was surprised at how <em>Keeper<\/em> ended, along with all of the horrors that it showed me along the way in which. When Evy and her distant co-host, Justin (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-features\/adam-dimarco-overcompensating-white-lotus-interview-1236220558\/\"><em>Overcompensating\u2019<\/em>s <strong>Adam DiMarco<\/strong><\/a>), receive some audio files promising a real-life horror story involving a missing young couple, they\u2019re intrigued enough to air them on their podcast. However the normally skeptical Evy begins to consider the fear in those files is real and that her comatose mother is in peril. Is Evy right, or is all of it in her head?<\/p>\n<p><em>Undertone<\/em> is a low-key horror movie that eventually rewards your patience and curiosity. It takes its time build up its story, slowly piecing together Evy\u2019s lonely life with that of the young couple she\u2019s listening to. Director <strong>Ian Tuason<\/strong> brings all of it together within the powerful ending, which resembles <a href=\"https:\/\/ew.com\/the-blair-witch-project\/\"><em>The Blair Witch Project<\/em><\/a>\u2019s in sheer impact and mystery. Yes, there\u2019s a heavy subtext involving family trauma, but director <strong>Ari Aster<\/strong> doesn\u2019t forget to serve up the scares. What separates <em>Midsommar<\/em> from the pack is that it takes place largely throughout the day. There are few shadows to cover the evil that\u2019s in plain sight, which makes the film even creepier. Higher still is Pugh\u2019s terrific performance, which accurately conveys the bottomless despair Dani feels consequently of her past.
