For the remaining, their wish!<\/p>\n Language:<\/strong> Hindi<\/p>\n Available On:<\/strong> OTT (Netflix) release<\/p>\n Runtime:<\/strong> 135 minutes<\/p>\n User Rating: <\/strong><\/p>\n In a North Indian town, Rekha (Madhuri Dixit), a widow, lives in a house leased out to her by Guptaji (Ravi Kishan), who lives opposite the bungalow. Guptaji has all the time been besotted along with her and jealous of her husband, Sukumar (Jatin Sarna), when the couple got here to live within the neighborhood. Soon, a freak accident kills Sukumar, and the widow is mostly considered a Black Widow, as she now continues a seemingly wild lifestyle, wearing glam sarees and dealing in a wine shop, after trying out her own businesses like running cyber cafes or selling nighties! Her daughters, Jaya (Triptii Dimri) and Sushma (Dharna Durga), live individually, Jaya in Patna, where she slogs as a conservative wife to Manas (Shardul Bharadwaj). Sushma tries to achieve success as an influencer, and her rapport with Jaya\u2019s husband is clearly not taken too kindly by the wife. Because it is, the 2 sisters don’t get along, and their claws are out on a regular basis.<\/p>\n The neighborhood thinks the worst of Rekha, who wears sleeveless blouses (!) and does far more to tempt the boys from the locale. Worse, she gets pregnant after her husband\u2019s death and offers birth to Sushma. And the neighborhood\u2019s opinion of the women can be poor.<\/p>\n To make matters worse, Guptaji\u2019s brother-in-law, Maheshwari (Arunoday Singh), is now a cop and has all the time had a (very) soft corner for Jaya from their college days. Guptaji\u2019s wife (Geetanjali Kulkarni), who regards the three women as witches, disapproves of his liking for her.<\/p>\n The film, Maa Behen, begins with Jaya needing Rs. 5.5 lakh for an IVF procedure and a simultaneous panic call from her mother to Sushma and her to rush immediately to her home. Seems Guptaji\u2019s dead body is lying of their home! When the daughters reach there, Rekha narrates an involved tale of Guptaji\u2019s lust for her, ending in an advanced mishap wherein he’s killed.<\/p>\n Rekha now plots to get rid of the body along with her daughters\u2019 help, but there may be a hitch. At Guptaji\u2019s home opposite, a pre-wedding event will probably be held that night as his daughter, Goldie (Rrama Sharma), is getting engaged. An elaborate plan is made, but do things ever go in response to the best-laid plans of man and woman?<\/p>\n The story, by director Suresh Triveni and Pooja Tolani, harps on the dark side of humanity. Pooja\u2019s script, though laced with fabulous dialogues\u2014sharp and trenchant, witty, and completely real\u2014thus relies on complex developments, revelations, and twists which are without delay hilarious once in a while and in addition indicative of irreverence and a pointy desire to indicate that our social fabric is greater than a bit judgmental. At the identical time, it demonstrates that the majority of us will not be only grey but can even fall easy victims to life\u2019s buffets despite all our deviousness.<\/p>\n The order of merit goes thus: Triptii Dimri towers, followed by Geetanjali Kulkarni (as Mrs. Gupta) in a shorter role, and Madhuri Dixit as Rekha, worthy of equal honors; after which Dharna Durga as Sushma, who, nonetheless, steals the show in specific scenes with all three actresses.<\/p>\n Ravi Kishan has a really different role and shines, as does Arunoday Singh because the cocksure cop who’s floored by Jaya\u2019s charms. Shardul Bharadwaj as Jaya\u2019s husband is appropriately hyper, and Paresh Rawal in an unusual cameo is alright. I also liked the considered over-the-top turn of Shrivardhan Trivedi because the Khalbali host and Rrama Sharma as Goldie.<\/p>\n Suresh Triveni improves upon the hyped Tumhari Sulu and Subedaar but falls (considerably) wanting his thriller, Jalsa, despite a superb first hour. He has an honest grasp of the ironies of life, but cannot keep the narration crystal clear on many an occasion. Admittedly, just about all characters are grey-tinged, and yet Mrs. Guptaji and her cop brother don’t panic despite Guptaji\u2019s disappearance during their daughter\u2019s wedding celebrations and subsequently carry on with the festivities despite a missing husband. Only because just a few messages coming to her on the phone stretches logic too far. And logic in a dark comedy can never be junked!<\/p>\n The background rating is typical, which implies good in parts only, while from the songs, Khol pinjra and Kaari kaari work throughout the film.<\/p>\n A curate\u2019s egg of a movie: good in parts and its intention to entertain, but not so solid in execution.<\/p>\n Three stars!<\/strong><\/p>\n![\"Maa](\"https:\/\/www.koimoi.com\/wp-content\/new-galleries\/2026\/06\/maa-behen-movie-review-1.jpg\")
