AYALA LAND, Inc. is expanding its long-term sustainability push because it aligns its operations with a science-validated net zero greenhouse gas emission goal by 2050, supported by its participation within the Department of Energy\u2019s (DoE) energy efficiency campaign.<\/p>\n
The Zobel-led developer on Wednesday formalized its partnership with the DoE under an initiative that encourages households and businesses to chop electricity use for one hour each week to assist reduce energy demand.<\/p>\n
\u201cAt its core, this initiative is easy: one hour every week where we consciously reduce our energy consumption,\u201d Ayala Land Chief Sustainability Officer Robert S. Lao said on the launch at Park Triangle in Taguig City on Wednesday. \u201cBut behind that simplicity is a strong idea \u2014 that collective, consistent motion can shape national outcomes.\u201d<\/p>\n
He said the initiative supports Ayala Land\u2019s broader sustainability strategy, particularly in managing its energy footprint across its diversified property portfolio.<\/p>\n
Ayala Land consumes about 1 million megawatt-hours of electricity annually, driven by its malls, offices, hotels, logistics facilities, residential developments and estate operations.<\/span><\/p>\n The corporate said it’s making progress in decarbonizing its assets, with 98% of its business properties either powered by renewable energy or covered by green constructing certifications.<\/span><\/p>\n It has 62 certified properties covering about 2.7 million square meters of gross leasable area under standards comparable to Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED), Excellence in Design for Greater Efficiencies (EDGE) and the International WELL Constructing Institute\u2019s WELL standards.<\/span><\/p>\n It has also deployed 156 electric vehicle (EV) charging stations across 64 properties to support low-carbon mobility and encourage wider EV adoption amongst tenants and customers.<\/p>\n Ayala Land said the DoE partnership can be rolled out across greater than 350 assets nationwide, including 34 malls, 76 office buildings, 16 hotels, two resorts, 11 logistics facilities, 28 estates, 136 residential developments, 29 automotive parks and 270 properties managed by Ayala Property Management Corp.<\/p>\n The corporate plans to expand the campaign\u2019s impact through operational integration, stricter energy monitoring and deeper coordination with contractors and suppliers, alongside public awareness efforts targeting consumers and tenants.<\/span><\/p>\n Beyond the campaign, Ayala Land\u2019s sustainability program includes ISO 50001-certified energy management systems under Ayala Property Management Corp. that standardize energy efficiency practices across its portfolio.<\/p>\n It has also installed 15.3 megawatts (MW) of solar capability across 13 mall buildings and plans to expand this to 38.4 MW by 2027, as a part of its broader renewable energy transition strategy.<\/p>\n It said 91% of its office gross floor area is roofed by green constructing certifications, reflecting the corporate\u2019s push toward lower emission assets.<\/p>\n Ayala Land Logistics Holdings Corp. and Ayala Land Hospitality are also expanding solar adoption and efficiency measures across industrial and hotel properties, respectively.<\/p>\n Energy Secretary Sharon S. Garin said the campaign has delivered measurable results nationwide, with participating households generating significant energy savings.<\/p>\n \u201cAs of today, 212 homes across the country have collectively saved over 73,000 megawatt-hours of electricity, corresponding to P885 million in savings,\u201d she said on the event.<\/p>\n \u201cThat is real.
