Across his a few years with WWE, R-Truth has earned respect and admiration from each fans and his fellow wrestlers, with a profession that dates back to 1997 within the National Wrestling Alliance. In an interview on “Six Feet Under<\/a>,” Truth recalled how the\u00a0Crockett family helped him turn his life around and kick off his pro wrestling profession.<\/p>\n

“We’re within the halfway house and I’m telling jokes. There’s this little corner over there where the inmates at. We got the weights, got somewhat bench set, and I’m over there telling jokes and dancing,” he recalled. Because it turned out, Jack Crockett was in the identical halfway house, and Truth caught his attention. At the identical time, Truth says some local law enforcement officials saw pictures of Truth with Tupac Shakur and Eazy-E. They encouraged Truth to pursue a profession in entertainment and contacted Crockett on his behalf.<\/p>\n

“Crockett desired to discuss with me because he thought I used to be athletic and I looked good and I used to be entertaining,” Truth recalled. “So me and\u00a0Crockett ended up talking. And we talked for perhaps \u2013 he had 4 months left \u2013 we talked all those 4 months. He’s like: ‘Give me a call while you get out.'”<\/p>\n

Truth wasn’t yet able to make the plunge into wrestling, and he turned Crockett down until two years later. The WWE star has previously relayed that Crockett took him to a WCW show, where he saw Ric Flair and have become inspired.<\/p>\n

“Crockett’s like, ‘See? That could possibly be you, that could possibly be you! Remember the way you was dancing in jail? That could possibly be you dancing, you are dancing to the ring! And you possibly can get in there, and you need to use all those dance [moves] \u2013 I saw you do a split in jail -you can do this!’ He just about talked my character into existence.”<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<\/p><\/div>\n

From there, R-Truth described his journey into pro wrestling as a “fairy tale.” During his initial years within the industry, he was capable of meet the likes of AJ Styles, who saw his potential. “He said, ‘You belong on TV, man!’ I said, ‘Bro, I’m just completely satisfied I’m not in jail, and I can wrestle,'” he recalled.<\/p>\n

From there, he was told to make a wrestling tape and send it to WWE, and two weeks later he got a call from Terry\u00a0Taylor. “It’s rolling, it’s happening, I’m like, ‘Okay, that is crazy,'” Truth said. “Two weeks [later], I got the decision, they … flew me in to fulfill Vince [McMahon].” Truth then recalled how he lied about his weight and height to get into WWE, but Taylor took him in to fulfill Vince McMahon anyway. “Vince loved me, and two weeks after that,\u00a0I used to be given my first contract.”<\/p>\n

Truth also expressed that professional wrestling took him on a distinct route he never expected, and an element of him wishes he began sooner. “[Wrestling] never was my thing, but sometimes you might have to take a distinct path to get to where you are going!” he stated. “Wrestling was my different route, it saved my life; it got me out of the streets, it taught me decorum, it taught me the right way to be a person, the right way to be skilled.”<\/p>\n
