A French military jet shot down a Russian drone which entered NATO airspace earlier today.<\/p>\n

Locals in eastern Latvia had been told to hunt shelter indoors due to threat from the mystery drone. <\/p>\n

The Latvian Army said the drone had flown into its airspace from Russia as a part of \u2018Russian electromagnetic warfare\u2019.<\/p>\n

On X, the Army posted: \u2018Allied \u200bfighter jets successfully shoot down a drone flying into Latvian airspace!\u2019<\/p>\n

A French Rafale fighter jet, which was on a NATO mission, managed to shoot down the drone before anyone was hurt.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s the most recent incursion of Russian drones into NATO airspace as Putin looks to expand his aggression from Ukraine into the Baltic States.<\/p>\n

Last month, it was reported that Putin was stockpiling fibre-optic drones for a possible future assault on NATO.<\/p>\n

The Kremlin may have already got amassed as much as 130,000 fibre-optic drones, a stockpile that might rise to 200,000 by the tip of\u00a0summer.<\/p>\n

FPV drones are especially dangerous because they use hair-thin fibre-optic cables slightly than\u00a0radio signals, making them far harder to jam electronically by NATO defences.<\/p>\n

Russian military insiders\u00a0consider the weapons could overwhelm\u00a0Estonia,\u00a0Latvia\u00a0and\u00a0Lithuania\u00a0within the opening stages of an assault designed to shock Europe into submission before NATO can fully react.<\/p>\n

The Kremlin sees the Baltic states as uniquely vulnerable because, although they possess advanced electronic warfare capabilities, they lack\u00a0Ukraine\u2019s combat experience with mass drone warfare.<\/p>\n

Russian planners also allegedly see Europe\u00a0as lacking the political will for a chronic fight over the Baltics \u2014 particularly while\u00a0Donald Trump\u00a0is in\u00a0the White House.<\/p>\n

In March, organisation Volya said they’d received confirmation from sources within the Russian Ministry of Defence that Putin\u2019s plan to \u2018invade\u2019 the Baltic states has moved to the subsequent stage.<\/p>\n

\u2018The Russian political leadership believes that European countries might be reluctant to fight a\u00a0nuclear power, especially without direct support from america,\u2019 Volya\u2019s evaluation said.<\/p>\n

\u2018Putin and his circle consider that major European countries wouldn’t risk going to war with Russia over the Baltic states.\u2019<\/p>\n
