\n\t\u201cThe Shards,\u201d Ryan Murphy\u2019s adaptation of the Bret Easton Ellis autofiction thriller novel, will premiere on FX and Hulu on Aug. 5 at 6 p.m. PT.<\/p>\n
\n\tSet in Los Angeles within the Eighties, the dark, coming-of-age drama series follows Bret (Igby Rigney), an aspiring author whose highschool life begins to unravel when the arrival of a brand new student, Robert Mallory (Homer Gere), coincides with the growing terror of the Trawler, a serial killer stalking teenagers across the Valley.<\/p>\n
\n\tAs Bret\u2019s imagination spirals, so does his relationship together with his girlfriend Debbie (Hayes Warner) and friends Susan Reynolds (Kaia Gerber) and Thom Wright (Graham Campbell). Because the group navigates senior 12 months of highschool \u2014 and the wealth and drug-fueled excess of L.A. private school culture \u2014 their youth is further compromised by the transgressions of the adults of their orbit: Terry Schaffer (Wes Bentley), Liz Schaffer (Evan Rachel Wood) and Steven Reinhardt (Jordan Roth).<\/p>\n
\n\t\u201cThe Shards\u201d hails from super-producer Murphy (whose recent output includes \u201cLove Story,\u201d \u201cThe Beauty\u201d and \u201cAll\u2019s Fair\u201d) and EPs Nina Jacobson, Brad Simpson, Ellis, Eric Kovtun, Scott Robertson, Nissa Diederich, Tanase Popa, Nick Hall, Michael Uppendahl, Max Winkler, Kathleen McCaffrey and Brian Young. The series is produced by twentieth Television in association with Ryan Murphy Television.<\/p>\n
\n\tA previous adaptation of the book, from \u201cLess Than Zero\u201d and \u201cAmerican Psycho\u201d creator Ellis, was in development at HBO with \u201cChallengers\u201d director Luca Guadagnino attached. Murphy took hold of the project in 2025 and brought on director Winkler.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n
