Devin Haney\u2019s comment that agreeing to a 144-pound catchweight \u201cwasn\u2019t enough\u201d got here during a busy stretch of developments at welterweight.<\/p>\n

Haney had publicly discussed a possible fight with Shakur and said he was willing to fulfill him at 144 kilos. Days later, the WBO named Keyshawn because the mandatory challenger for Haney\u2019s title, putting the champion able to either defend the belt against Keyshawn or move forward without it.<\/p>\n

The social media exchanges between the fighters offered a glimpse into the competing interests at play. Haney had verbally agreed to drop right down to 144 kilos to accommodate Shakur, while Keyshawn continued pursuing a title fight with the WBO champion.<\/p>\n

Responding to Keyshawn on X, Shakur wrote:<\/p>\n

\u201cOnly gone move off ya blessing brotha.. If not go cook that nigga!!\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Haney later posted:<\/p>\n

\u201c144 wasn\u2019t enough\u2026 still don\u2019t wanna fight.\u201d<\/p>\n

Taken together, the comments raised questions on whether Haney\u2019s willingness to compromise on weight was enough to beat the complications created by Keyshawn\u2019s mandatory position and Shakur\u2019s reluctance to maneuver ahead without his friend\u2019s approval.<\/p>\n

For Haney, the situation presents a strategic selection. Defending the title against Keyshawn satisfies the WBO but could delay a number of the biggest paydays available to him. Taking the Shakur fight at 144 kilos, or moving ahead with Ryan Garcia or Conor Benn, could mean leaving the WBO title behind.<\/p>\n

Haney now has to come to a decision whether holding onto the WBO title is price putting greater fights on hold.<\/p>\n
