After the backlash intensified over Madhur Virli\u2019s 2024 set, wherein he made a rape \u2018joke\u2019, the IIT graduate-turned-comic issued an apology on his YouTube channel. He took to YouTube to apologise to his fans and audience. \u201cThat is to apologise for a video of mine that’s currently being shared online,\u201d <\/em>he said. \u201cThe clip being circulated is from a performance I did around two years ago. Soon after performing that bit, I understood how incorrect it was and took it down at the moment, long before the clip began circulating again recently,\u201d <\/em>the Delhi-based comedian wrote.<\/p>\n

\u201cI do consider comedy can query ideas and have interaction with difficult subjects. But certain topics require sensitivity, context and informed discretion. When an attempt falls short, the one honest thing to do is acknowledge it, apologise and do higher. That is one in every of those moments for me,\u201d <\/em>Virli added.<\/p>\n

Speaking about his Instagram account, he wrote that he had deactivated it six months ago. The motion wasn\u2019t recent. \u201cI’m genuinely sorry,\u201d<\/em> he concluded.<\/p>\n

Madhur Virli\u2019s Controversial Rape \u2018Joke\u2019 Video<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The video that’s circulating on social media has Madhur Virli making insensitive remarks concerning the survivors and victims of rape. He said that out of 10 rape cases, nine involve only rape, while one case is likely to be rape followed by murder. Madhur took it upon himself to clarify why the ratio between rape and rape + murder is 9:1. He added that when the perpetrator had committed the crime, the girl would ask him if he would \u201ccuddle\u201d<\/em> after raping her, prompting him to stab her. \u201cNow cuddle with the knife,\u201d <\/em>he said because the audience burst into laughter.<\/p>\n

He also said, \u201cRape victims say that we might have preferred death over this. But kabhi bhi kisi laash ne nahin bola ki rape he ho jata [No dead body has ever said that rape might have been better].\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

After each controversies, the conversation on social media has shifted to a broader subject: what’s funny? Persons are questioning comics and asserting that they can’t joke about sexual harassment, rape, or gender-based crimes that affect thousands and thousands globally.<\/p>\n
