A Russian artist forced into exile has been shot dead in Poland after speaking out against Vladimir Putin.<\/p>\n

Semyon\u00a0Skrepetsky, 44, real name Robert Kuzovkov, was known for portraying the Kremlin leader as an absurd, bloodthirsty dictator in his work.<\/p>\n

The activist was gunned down in Poland shortly after receiving a threat from so-called \u2018Russian patriots\u2019.<\/p>\n

Polish police have launched a manhunt for the killer amid suspicions that Skrepetsky was killed for criticising Russia.<\/p>\n

In a single satirical artwork, he\u00a0portrayed Putin as a cruel tyrant with blood on his hands and\u00a0also ridiculed Belarusian leader Alexander Lukashenko and Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov.<\/p>\n

Skrepetsky was shot at close range in Biala Podlaska, near the country\u2019s border with Belarus.<\/p>\n

Medics were unable to save lots of his life despite bystanders starting immediate resuscitation efforts.<\/p>\n

One person being questioned by police is a taxi driver, believed to have driven possible suspects from Warsaw.<\/p>\n

Three days before the shooting, the artist had staged a protest outside the Russian embassy in Berlin which saw him pull a Russian flag from a slit behind his trousers and throw it right into a rubbish bin.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Skrepetsky\u00a0later protested outside the embassy, carrying a painting of Stalin holding an infant Putin.<\/p>\n

Before his death, he said he had received threats of rape from pro-Putin Russians.<\/p>\n

Police spokesman Andrzej Fijo\u0142ek said: \u2018We now have established the identity of the person who was shot dead today in Bia\u0142a Podlaska by an unknown man.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u2018We’re doing all the things to apprehend the perpetrator of the murder.\u2019<\/p>\n

Fijo\u0142ek said they\u2019re looking into the murder as a planned assassination and said the killer can have modified clothes.<\/p>\n

The shooting has details just like those of typical political executions in Russia.<\/p>\n

The opposition channel Nexta Live, based in Poland, said: \u2018This murder is 100% an order from Russia.\u2019<\/p>\n
