Montreal Canadiens musings<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Eric Engels of Sportsnet<\/a><\/strong>: (mailbag) The chances are probably 50-50 that the Montreal Canadiens acquire a 2nd line center. It’s their top priority, but free agency is thin, and it\u2019s sellers\u2019 market.<\/p>\n

If the Canadiens are in a position to trade goaltender Sam Montembeault, it opens up more games for Jacob Fowler<\/a>. Montembeault could find yourself being their third goalie if he isn\u2019t traded.<\/p>\n

Don\u2019t think the Canadiens have to trade Kaiden Guhle<\/a> in a package for a right-handed defenseman. There are some right-handed free agents, with Connor Murphy<\/a> being one option. Yes, Guhle is on the third pair at $5.5 million, however the cap goes up and money isn\u2019t a problem yet. He\u2019s not untouchable, but moving him to fill a hole, could be creating one other hole.<\/p>\n

Kirby Dach<\/a> is owed a $4 million qualifying offer, and his future is uncertain. He could accept it, or reject it and go to arbitration. They might also look to maneuver him. He has some value, but undecided sort of value that’s.<\/p>\n

Mason McTavish has been on the Canadiens radar. The 23-year-old carries a $7 million cap hit through 2031.\u00a0 He\u2019s never scored lower than 17 goals and 41 points. There are concerns about his skating and defensive game. Don\u2019t consider he\u2019s at the highest of their list.<\/p>\n

NHL Rumors: Vincent Trocheck, Mason McTavish, and Top Buyout Candidates<\/a><\/p>\n

Think there’s a greater likelihood that considered one of Adam Engstrom<\/a> or David Reinbacher<\/a> is traded over Arber Xhekaj or Jayden Struble<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Wingers Mason Marchment<\/a> and Alexis Lafreniere<\/a> can be interesting options for the Canadiens, but thinks that there are other teams that might outbid them.<\/p>\n
