Golden Boy promoter says discussions are progressing and expects the unbeaten junior middleweight contender back within the ring before 12 months\u2019s end<\/strong><\/p>\n

Oscar De La Hoya says Golden Boy Promotions is near resolving its dispute with Vergil Ortiz Jr. and expects the unbeaten contender to fight again before the top of 2026. The promoter revealed that discussions between Golden Boy president Eric Gomez and adviser Rick Mirigian are continuing as each side work toward an agreement.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s nothing that makes me happier than to see fighters get within the ring and perform. Vergil Ortiz is among the finest fighters on the market. I hate not seeing him fight,\u201d De La Hoya said during Golden Boy\u2019s DAZN broadcast on Saturday.<\/p>\n

\u201cDo I need to resolve this? Absolutely, a thousand percent. Did they make a mistake? Did we make a mistake? No. There was a misunderstanding, the whole lot is great. Eric Gomez is talking to Rick Mirigian and we\u2019re making this occur.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

De La Hoya said Golden Boy expects the situation to be resolved under the terms of Ortiz\u2019s existing agreement with the corporate.<\/p>\n

\u201cNow we have the unique deal that was in place. Outside people attempt to ruffle things up, let\u2019s say, but we’ve the contracts, we’ve the relationships, we’ve Vergil Ortiz,\u201d De La Hoya said.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019ve had him since he was a baby, since he began boxing professionally. We feel that we\u2019re very close and Vergil Ortiz will fight this 12 months.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

Ortiz last fought in November 2025, stopping Erickson Lubin in two rounds. After the fight, Ortiz and Ennis met face-to-face within the ring, with plans for a high-profile matchup gaining momentum before the contract dispute halted negotiations.<\/p>\n

Ortiz is 24-0 with 22 knockouts and stays one in every of the leading contenders within the junior middleweight division.
