\n\tWhile the upcoming Netflix drama series \u201cKennedy\u201d will chronicle the famous political dynasty from 1931 to 1944, the family\u2019s signature Boston accent won\u2019t be so pervasive.<\/p>\n

\n\tNick Robinson, who plays Joe Kennedy Jr., JFK\u2019s older brother who was originally being groomed to run for president before he was killed in motion during World War II, tells me, \u201cWe made the chief decision beforehand that we\u2019re going to steer away from the Boston accent. So it\u2019s subtle. Also, that accent has type of modified through the years. It was initially like this mid-Atlantic upper-class accent after which it type of modified to [what] I feel modern audiences associated more with working class Boston.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nick Robinson says his character Joe Kennedy Jr. within the upcoming Netflix drama series \u201cKennedy\u201d \u201csteers away\u201d from his classic Boston accent:<\/p>\n

\n\tPreparing for the role proved to be a history lesson for Robinson. \u201cI knew concerning the Kennedy family, but I didn\u2019t know much about Joseph Kennedy Jr., in order that was a fun time to get a deep dive onto him and his life and his legacy,\u201d he said on the recent premiere of his recent Netflix rom-com \u201cVoicemails for Isabelle.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tLaura Donnelly, who plays matriarch Rose within the eight-episode \u201cKennedy,\u201d says she and Michael Fassbender, who plays patriarch Joe Sr., had prepared to make use of the couple\u2019s accents before filming began. \u201cOnce Michael and I had arrived on set, we\u2019d already decided that we\u2019d already done our work on the accents,\u201d Donnelly told me at recent \u201cSugar\u201d Season 2 premiere in Los Angeles. \u201cThen we came upon that the overall vibe was going to be pull it back. We were a bit like, \u2018Oh, I don\u2019t know learn how to try this.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tNot that they were asked to lose the accents all together. \u201cTheir accent was form of created in a really aspirational way, and so that you do need to have that reference,\u201d Donnelly said. \u201cAt the identical time that they had nine children. We didn\u2019t want these tiny kids trying to do this accent, so there needed to be a way of closing that gap so the children can be more of a general and that Michael and I’d do the more distinctive accents. I feel that form of creates a mix.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tThe series is predicated on Fredrik Logevall\u2019s book \u201cJFK: Coming of Age within the American Century, 1917-1956.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tDonnelly also talked concerning the pressure of taking up the role of the enduring matriarch. \u201cI feel that it\u2019s actually very lucky for me that I\u2019m not American and I didn\u2019t feel age-old pressure of we all know a lot about them,\u201d said Donnelly, who’s Irish.<\/p>\n

\n\tShe continued, \u201cSo pressure like that, I attempt to just generally shut out and I\u2019m like I\u2019m playing an actual woman.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tDonnelly\u2019s preparation included watching footage of Rose being interviewed later in life. Rose died in 1995 at age 104. \u201cI\u2019ve come to admire her a lot,\u201d she said. \u201cOh, my goodness, what she endured and with such dignity and beauty.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
