Craig Button: \u201cSo, let me ask you this, just a bit bit about Jason Robertson, and also you mentioned the $14 million number. Is that this akin to what happened in Winnipeg? (Mark) Scheifele and (Connor) Hellebuyck sign those big contracts, the market changes, Kyle Connor<\/a> signs for $12 million. Is that something where that\u2019s the truth, and Dallas just doesn\u2019t need to face that reality?\u201d<\/p>\n

Dave Pagnotta: \u201cI mean, it might be, it might be. I mean, that is like, it\u2019s tough, you take a look at the situation in Dallas, and Dallas considers themselves, obviously a year-by-year contender. Annual contender. You bought to tweak just a few things to recover from the hump sort of thing, which was what obviously another teams have done.<\/p>\n

But I believe they give the impression of being at this and go, as much as we wish to be competitive, and we wish to proceed to chase the Stanley Cup, we\u2019ve got to provide ourselves a bit little bit of flexibility because the season moves on here.<\/p>\n

Jason Robertson Turns Down a Kraken Offer, and the Blues and Rangers Make Offers for Mason McTavish<\/a><\/p>\n

As much as they love Jason Robertson, and the priority is to maintain him to get to a number as significant as say $14 million, it really puts them in a troublesome position for the remainder of the season. Not necessarily moving forward, because we all know where the cap goes to go in a 12 months from now, nevertheless it puts them in a little bit of a rough spot.<\/p>\n

Now, there are other teams definitely looking around and lurking, you already know, what $14-$15 million, Ottawa, others, Seattle (a proposal refused), we\u2019re prepared to supply that up and cough up the draft picks if we want to.<\/p>\n

So, Dallas is definitely evaluating things. I believe they need to get and that is one other scenario, guys, where I believe it\u2019s we got to figure something out here by the weekend, or on the very least, by the tip of the weekend, before really determining what alternative options now we have to go in here. Due to all of the activity, due to all of the talk occurring, this could be the chance where, if we will\u2019t find middle ground, and it definitely doesn’t appear to be he\u2019s taken $12 million. Then now we have to explore alternative options.<\/p>\n

How can the Dallas Stars Not Extend Jason Robertson?<\/a><\/p>\n

It\u2019s sort of the character of the beast here, with how things go. And with those contracts you mentioned with Hellebuyck and Scheifele, and whatnot. You get your bank, you walk in, but I believe there\u2019s also an understanding that if the team isn’t going to be competitive. If we\u2019re not going to give you the chance to recover from the hump, then we\u2019ll explore that possibility of trading it. Which I believe is more geared towards Hellebuyk right away than it’s Scheifele.\u201d<\/p>\n

We all know the Dallas Stars don\u2019t need to go past Mikko Rantanen<\/a>\u2018s $12 million AAV. They could must in the event that they need to keep a homegrown talent. With the Vegas Golden Knights, Utah Mammoth, and Columbus Blue Jackets all in the combination for his services, Robertson desires to go to a spot where he thinks he can win after experiencing success in Dallas.<\/p>\n
