The 2026 AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door pay-per-view event featured an unlucky wardrobe malfunction through the finals of the Women\u2019s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament.<\/p>\n

Mercedes Mon\u00e9 faced Maya World within the tournament final, with Mon\u00e9 trying to win the tournament for a second straight 12 months. World entered the tournament as a alternative competitor but put together a powerful Cinderella run to succeed in the championship match.<\/p>\n

Early in the competition, the front of Maya World\u2019s ring gear got here loose, forcing her to regulate it repeatedly throughout the match. Although she was wearing protective gear underneath, the malfunction clearly affected her movement and luxury. Later within the bout, her wig also became dislodged, adding to the challenges she faced.<\/p>\n

Despite the setbacks, World refused to let the mishaps derail her performance. The AEW crowd rallied behind the underdog as she continued to battle one in all the corporate\u2019s biggest stars. Mon\u00e9 also showed professionalism throughout the match, subtly helping her opponent preserve her coverage on multiple occasions, including while applying her Statement Maker submission.<\/p>\n

Along with her victory, Mercedes Mon\u00e9 captured the Women\u2019s Owen Hart Foundation Tournament for the second consecutive 12 months and earned a title match against AEW Women\u2019s World Champion Thekla at AEW All In 2026.<\/p>\n

Following the match, the commentary team praised Maya World\u2019s determination and composure under difficult circumstances. Excalibur specifically commended her for battling through the wardrobe issues while still delivering a standout performance.<\/p>\n
