Alongside the fresco panels are jewels,\u00a0Etruscan\u00a0vases and other items that were discovered contained in the\u00a0tomb, now belong in museum collections world wide and were loaned to\u00a0Italy\u00a0for the exhibition.<\/p>\n

It paid 14.9 million euros ($16 million) for Antonello da Messina\u2019s \u201cEcce Homo\u201d\u00a0and $35 million for a rare portrait by Caravaggio depicting Maffeo Barberini, the longer term Pope Urban VIII.<\/p>\n
The funds have come\u00a0from\u00a0the ministry\u2019s annual budget for acquisitions, but Culture Minister Alessandro Giuli has prioritized buying fewer, bigger-ticket items of\u00a0cultural\u00a0importance fairly than smaller, lesser artworks and antiquities, officials said.<\/p>\n
