Director Steven Soderbergh<\/strong> hasn\u2019t been shy about answering questions related to his scrapped \u201cStar Wars\u201d film, \u201cThe Hunt For Ben Solo.\u201d He and actor Adam Driver<\/strong>, who played Kylo Ren\/Ben Solo within the sequel trilogy, worked on the project for years before it was ultimately scrapped by Disney.<\/p>\n Before unveiling his latest John Lennon documentary ahead of its Cannes premiere, Soderbergh spoke to Deadline<\/a> concerning the shelved Ben Solo movie. They asked what other major franchise could \u201ctempt\u201d him; nevertheless, it appears that evidently the director has absolutely no plans to create one other franchise film after his cope with Lucasfilm fell apart.<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s not coming to mind \u2026 I\u2019m not a snob, clearly,\u201d Soderbergh said. \u201cYou may see that from my list of credits. [But] the sensation needs to be, \u2018I can\u2019t bear the thought of any person else doing this. I\u2019m the person to do that.\u2019 It needs to be that.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cSo given my background, there are only certain genres that I\u2019m not steeped in: Didn\u2019t read that stuff, wasn\u2019t exposed to that stuff. what I mean?\u201d he continued. \u201cI didn\u2019t buy or read comic books, for example. In order that whole space, I don\u2019t have an issue with it \u2014 it\u2019s just not in my DNA, and I wouldn\u2019t be good at it.\u201d<\/p>\n In an interview with\u00a0The Day by day Beast<\/a>, Soderbergh admitted that he had been taking over smaller projects over the past few years and thought that a visit to a galaxy far, far-off could be the sort of ambitious project he was searching for. \u00a0<\/p>\n \u201cStar Wars<\/em>\u00a0was going to occupy that slot. That was going to be the most important thing I\u2019ve ever attempted to make. And I used to be enthusiastic about working on a giant canvas,\u201d he said. \u201c, it\u2019s been some time. I\u2019ve got other stuff that I\u2019m attempting to get going that\u2019ll satisfy that desire.\u201d<\/p>\n He admitted that he had been working on the canceled \u201cStar Wars\u201d film for a \u201cvery long time,\u201d but compared complaining about its cancellation to \u201ccomplaining concerning the weather,\u201d adding, \u201cYou only need to figure it out.\u201d<\/p>\n Filmmaker Steven Soderbergh says even with latest Star Wars leadership, he doesn’t plan to pursue his Hunt for Ben Solo project with Adam Driver<\/p>\n “If it was gonna occur, it could have happened\u201d<\/p>\n via: The Playlist pic.twitter.com\/sF0RkgNuej<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 ScreenTime (@screentime) April 7, 2026<\/a><\/p><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/figure>\n Although some \u201cStar Wars\u201d fans are hopeful that the script may someday get made, Steven Soderbergh told\u00a0The Playlist<\/a>\u00a0that the film is dead, saying, \u201cLook, if it was gonna occur, it could have happened.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cIt\u2019s that easy,\u201d he added, giving a transparent \u201cNope\u201d when asked if he would ever return to the project.<\/p>\n Nonetheless, he said that he had no regrets about working on the project. \u201cI don\u2019t regret one minute of the time we spent working on that,\u201d he said. \u201cI felt the work was good. It\u2019s just good so that you can be in that room and dealing on it. It\u2019s like CrossFit\u2014it\u2019s good for you. It\u2019ll have a residual effect that will probably be unexpected in some unspecified time in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n Through the same interview, Soderbergh also revealed that Driver was the one who had brought up the thought of constructing one other movie focused on the character. \u201cIt was strictly Adam saying, \u2018I believe there\u2019s still somewhere to go together with this character.\u2019 That\u2019s the way it began,\u201d Soderbergh revealed.<\/p>\n While chatting with Variety<\/a>, he revealed that Driver \u201cfelt bad\u201d about getting him involved within the project, just for it to be shut down.<\/p>\n \u201cAdam felt bad for having gotten me into it. I believe he felt like he wasted my time, and I made it clear to him, \u2018Dude, that was not wasted time.\u2019 It\u2019s a problem-solving experience that may get applied to every thing I do going forward,\u201d Soderbergh said.<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019m not upset,\u201d he continued. \u201cI feel positive about every thing that we did together.\u201d<\/p>\n Steven Soderbergh says he wasted 2 and a half years on his Star Wars film \u2018THE HUNT FOR BEN SOLO\u2019<\/p>\n \u201cI\u2019d made the movie in my head, and just felt bad that no person else was going to get to see it.
