Salman Khan\u2019s upcoming war drama Maatrubhumi<\/em>, previously titled Battle of Galwan<\/em>, has encountered one other hurdle ahead of its theatrical release. In line with an NDTV report, the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has withheld the film\u2019s clearance certificate until further notice, casting uncertainty over its release schedule.<\/p>\n

The film, inspired by the 2020 Galwan Valley clash between Indian and Chinese troops, was initially slated to release on April 17, ahead of Eid. The date was later postponed, with the makers reportedly eyeing an August release across the Independence Day weekend. Nonetheless, with the certification process still pending, the film is now expected to miss that release window as well.<\/p>\n

Directed by Apoorva Lakhia and produced by Salma Khan under the Salman Khan Movies banner, Maatrubhumi<\/em> stars Salman Khan within the role of Colonel Santosh Babu, the commanding officer of the 16 Bihar Regiment, who led Indian soldiers in the course of the Galwan Valley confrontation while implementing a disengagement agreement on the border. Chitrangda Singh plays the feminine lead, while Abhilash Chaudhary and Ankur Bhatia also feature in pivotal roles. The film\u2019s music has been composed by Himesh Reshammiya.<\/p>\n

The film had already sparked controversy even before its release. Following the circulation of its teaser online, several users on the Chinese social media platform Weibo criticised the project, alleging that it misrepresented the events surrounding the Galwan Valley clash.<\/p>\n

Earlier this 12 months, the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) distanced itself from reports suggesting it had objected to the film. Responding to questions on the matter, External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, \u201cWe understand that a movie of this nature is being planned. Issues regarding filmmaking in India, as you might be well aware, are sorted by the relevant authorities. And so far as we’re concerned, MEA has no role on this or such ventures.\u201d<\/p>\n

Sources had earlier indicated that the makers had modified the title from Battle of Galwan<\/em> to Maatrubhumi<\/em>, with related modifications being incorporated into the project. \u201cThe title of the film was recently modified from Battle of Galwan to Maatrubhumi. Changes are being made accordingly. It is probably going that the discharge of the film could also be further delayed. It’s prone to be released in August across the Independence Day weekend,\u201d sources had said.<\/p>\n

The teaser for Maatrubhumi<\/em> was unveiled on December 27, 2025, coinciding with Salman Khan\u2019s sixtieth birthday. The actor was last seen in AR Murugadoss\u2019 Sikandar<\/em>, co-starring Rashmika Mandanna. With the CBFC yet to grant certification, the discharge date of Maatrubhumi<\/em> now stays uncertain.<\/p>\n
