Ella Brilliant<\/strong> reveals why she would never date her Off Campus<\/em> costar Belmont Cameli<\/strong> after public concern about their age gap.<\/p>\n

\u201cI totally get [why fans want] it, but it surely is so weird,\u201d Brilliant, 19, said on the Friday, July 3, episode of the \u201cIn Your Dreams With Owen Thiele\u201d podcast<\/a>. \u201cLike, no.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brilliant referred to Cameli, 28, as \u201cliterally my brother.\u201d She went on to clarify how she hasn\u2019t \u201cseen that much\u201d of the fan discourse around their friendship, adding, \u201cI like him a lot, but yeah, it\u2019s very funny.\u201d<\/p>\n

The actress also identified that Cameli is in a relationship with Raina Morris<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Hannah (Brilliant) and Garrett\u2019s (Cameli) love story took center stage in season 1 \u2014 with several key moments from their book, The Deal, being updated. The season, which premiered in May, received some backlash after audience members questioned a then-18-year-old Brilliant filming sex scenes with Cameli.<\/p>\n

She continued: \u201cFor Hannah \u2014 obviously, given her backstory [with sexual assault] \u2014 she dresses more innocently and he or she\u2019s got the thin jeans and the hoodies. It just shows the dichotomy between the characters. That was all the time \u2014 from the start \u2014 the concept.\u201d<\/p>\n

Brilliant clarified that nothing was altered when she got forged, adding, \u201cAll of [the people auditioning for] Hannah knew it was just going to be partial. For Allie, it was going to be full so everyone had [a] full understanding of what we were going into.\u201d<\/p>\n

Creator Louisa Levy<\/strong>, meanwhile, broke her silence on the criticism surrounding the forged\u2019s age differences.<\/p>\n

\u201cI had a conversation with Ella before we closed her deal to make sure that she knew what was coming,\u201d she told Variety. \u201cShe\u2019d read the book, so she already understood, but I walked her through all the things and made sure she was comfortable and assured.\u201d<\/p>\n

The screenwriter acknowledged that Brilliant and Cameli had a virtually nine-year age gap.<\/p>\n
