A Herb Dean victory on the 2026 World MMA Awards may need sent Alex Pereira over the sting.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The veteran referee has been coming under increased scrutiny in recent weeks and months, and the previous UFC light heavyweight and middleweight champion has been leading the campaign.<\/p>\n

Dean stepped in to provide Ciryl Gane a TKO victory over Pereira within the UFC Freedom 250 co-main event on the White House, ending the Brazilian\u2019s hopes of constructing championship history in Washington, DC.<\/p>\n

\u2018Poatan\u2019 was furious, believing the experienced official allowed Gane to land quite a few illegal shots to the back of his head.<\/p>\n

With that in mind, he can have been relieved that Dean wasn\u2019t the recipient of an award on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

Marc Goddard beats Herb Dean to \u2018Referee of the 12 months\u2019 award following UFC White House controversy<\/h2>\n

It didn’t take long for Herb Dean to be involved in one other controversy after June 14.<\/p>\n

Through the UFC\u2019s second visit to Baku in Azerbaijan, he let Shara Magomedov get away with quite a few fouls in the course of the Dagestani\u2019s win over Michel Pereira.<\/p>\n

\u2018Poatan\u2019 continued his calls for the veteran ref to be fired within the aftermath, a sentiment that has been echoed by loads of fans.<\/p>\n

Despite that, though, Dean was still considered one of five nominees within the \u2018Referee of the 12 months\u2019 category on the seventeenth annual World MMA Awards.<\/p>\n

Alongside Mike Beltran, Jason Herzog, and Mark Smith, Dean was beaten to the award by Marc Goddard. Pereira\u2019s name got here up as fans reacted to the 55-year-old\u2019s defeat on social media.<\/p>\n

\u201cCould you might have imagined the scenes if it was Herb Dean.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cJust imagine the crash out from Alex Pereira if Herb Dean had won it.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cTRAVESTY. It must have been Herb Dean winning that.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cSo long as Herb Dean is nowhere near the discussion, give it to anyone. I\u2019m good.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIf Herb had won that \ud83e\udd23\ud83e\udd23\ud83e\udd23\u2026. Chama.\u201d<\/p>\n

But Dean was not without some defenders, in a way. A number of fans pushed back on Goddard receiving the award as a substitute.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2018s even worse than Herb but y\u2018all ain\u2019t ready for this conversation yet.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cIt should\u2019ve been Herb Dean 100%\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDid (Goddard) win by early stoppage?\u201d<\/p>\n

Others, meanwhile, saw no reason to award any referee with the respect.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis award must be scrapped. There isn’t a good referee in MMA.\u201d<\/p>\n
