The wife of a person whose head and shoulders were sucked out of a Ryanair plane window shortly after takeoff from an airport in Greece has spoken out, telling Greek and Serbian media that half of his body was hanging out of the aircraft.<\/p>\n

Svetlana Grkovi\u0107 and her husband, Ljubisa Karovi\u0107, were flying from Thessaloniki in Greece to Memmingen in Germany on Friday when certainly one of the plane\u2019s windows malfunctioned, sucking the person \u201coutside as much as his chest,\u201d she told the state-owned Greek news broadcaster\u00a0ERT<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe was outside for one and a half to 2 minutes,\u201d she estimated. \u201cI used to be sitting within the back, the girl sitting next to him grabbed his hand. Three of us were pulling him in,\u201d she continued, adding that it was \u201cchaos\u201d and that her husband, whose face she said was covered in blood, lost consciousness multiple times while receiving little or no assistance from the crew.<\/p>\n

She recalled being within the air for about 30 to 40 minutes and each of them dozing off when the window shattered. She said her husband was wearing a seatbelt, which she told ERT \u201csaved his life.\u201d<\/p>\n

Because the incident, her husband has been in a state of shock and is recovering from serious injuries, noting that she can also be suffering mentally, she told ERT.<\/p>\n

The 61-year-old passenger suffered neck and shoulder injuries and friction burns, in keeping with a Greek hospital official who spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.<\/p>\n

Local Greek media reported that a bit of the plane flew off and broke a window shortly after takeoff on Friday, causing the cabin oxygen masks to drop and sucking one passenger\u2019s head and shoulders out of the window.<\/p>\n

In a separate interview with\u00a0the Serbian news outlet\u00a0Nova.rs,<\/a> Grkovi\u0107 said the crew instructed passengers to stay calm as people began to panic, and that\u00a0pilots executed an emergency descent back into Thessaloniki.<\/p>\n
