Seven victims of considered one of Spain\u2019s deadliest wildfires on record were British, officials have confirmed.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The update comes two days after forensics experts began the grim task of identifying the 13 people killed in Almeria late last week.<\/p>\n

The wildfires, which have also ravaged France, broke out last Thursday as parts of Western Europe baked under their third heatwave in six weeks.<\/p>\n

Bodies were found near the village of Bedar. They were thought to have attempted to flee on foot after apparently abandoning their vehicles and attempting to flee through rugged terrain.<\/p>\n

A British pensioner who fears his wife, friends and neighbours were killed within the Spanish wildfires described yesterday how he survived by sheltering in an abandoned automobile along with his cat.<\/p>\n

Malcolm Timbrell, 70, became separated from his wife Annette Kilgore, 69, and the remaining of the group as flames surged through Bedar on Thursday.<\/p>\n

Mr Timbrell and Ms Kilgore moved there after being shown the property after they appeared on the Channel 4 programme A Place within the Sun.<\/p>\n

The couple had decided to flee by automobile but Mr Timbrell went back to get their two cats and when he tried to meet up with the remaining of the group, saw that they had left their cars and were attempting to flee the flames on foot.<\/p>\n

He told the BBC: \u2018My wife and our other seven friends and neighbours \u2013 against me screaming at them to not \u2013 decided the one protected way was to walk out in front of the firewall.<\/p>\n

\u2018I\u2019ve subsequently heard that that firewall was moving at 20 kilometres per hour, plus. That they had no likelihood.\u2019<\/p>\n

The victims of Spain\u2019s wildfires<\/h2>\n

A 93-year-old British woman has been confirmed among the many victims.<\/p>\n

The Andalusian government said she was taken to hospital on Friday after suffering burns to about 20% of her body and her death was confirmed on Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n

On Sunday it was reported that two British hikers had been found alive but badly burned.<\/p>\n

The person and woman are thought to have suffered 40% burns, in accordance with Spanish national broadcaster, RTVE.<\/p>\n

The pair were discovered by a team of Civil Guards, who said that they had already checked the realm, but had a sense that they need to return.<\/p>\n

In an interview with RTVE, the Civil Guard officers said they found the 2 British people alive just as night was falling.<\/p>\n

Sergeant Pedro Barre told the broadcaster: \u2018That have we accumulate over time is what tells you: take one other look, give it one last try, check again just in case.\u2019<\/p>\n

The pair at the moment are said to be in a serious condition in hospital, although their lives usually are not believed to be in peril.<\/p>\n

In an announcement confirming the nationalities of those that died, Andalucia\u2019s High Court of Justice said late yesterday: \u2018This afternoon, the identification of all of the victims of the Los Gallardos fire was accomplished.<\/p>\n

\u2018In total, the identified victims of the fireplace include one Spaniard and twelve foreign nationals.<\/p>\n

\u2018Of the thirteen identified deceased, considered one of whom died within the hospital, seven were from the UK, three from Belgium, one from France, one from the US, and one was a Spanish citizen. The thirteen deceased comprise eight women and five men, all of them adults.<\/p>\n

\u2018The identification process for the ultimate three bodies was accomplished because of the arrival of biological samples from relatives of the deceased.\u2019<\/p>\n

Authorities proactively evacuated 1,448 people from some 11 areas.<\/p>\n

The justice minister attributed the ferocity of the Almeira wildfire to a \u2018climate emergency\u2019.<\/p>\n

At its most intense, flames advanced as fast as 100 meters per minute.<\/p>\n

Spain\u00a0has suffered frequent and severe heatwaves lately, with temperatures often exceeding 40C.<\/p>\n

In June,\u00a0Spain\u00a0experienced several days of record-setting heat, with greater than 1,000 excess deaths attributed to heat.<\/p>\n

The country\u2019s deadliest wildfire was in 1979, when 21 people perished in Lloret de Mar, a coastal town about an hour north of Barcelona.<\/p>\n
