Tolkien\u2019s original world. His comments come as anticipation for the project continues to grow.<\/p>\n

Andy Serkis, who famously portrayed Gollum in \u201cThe Lord of the Rings\u201d and \u201cThe Hobbit\u201d movies, is getting into the director\u2019s role for the spinoff movie, \u201cThe Hunt for Gollum,\u201d and can be reprising his iconic role.<\/p>\n

The film\u2019s forged has been slowly taking shape, with recent additions announced over the past few months. Each Elijah Wood and Ian McKellen will likely be returning to play Frodo Baggins and Gandalf, respectively, and other names have been announced as well, including Kate Winslet, Anya Taylor-Joy, Jamie Dornan, Leo Woodall, and Lee Pace.<\/p>\n

In 2018, the actor shared how he developed a deeper understanding of what it felt wish to be within the minority at a movie set. He and \u201cThe Hobbit\u201d actor Martin Freeman were the one major white characters within the Marvel movie \u201cThe Black Panther,\u201d and were called the \u201cTolkien white guys.\u201d<\/p>\n

In an interview with Radio Times<\/a><\/em>, Serkis said he and Freeman were grateful for having the experience, sharing that director Ryan Coogler, at one point, told them that it was his first time directing a scene with two white actors. \u201cThat\u2019s an incredible perspective to search out yourself in,\u201d Serkis said. Freeman noted, \u201cYou’re thinking that, \u2018Right, that is what black actors feel like on a regular basis.’\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Rings of Power\u201d is a fantasy TV series from Amazon based on the history of Middle-earth, and while many fans celebrated the casting decisions, some viewers argued that it went against Tolkien\u2019s lore. Some accused the showrunners of being too \u201cwoke\u201d and prioritizing representation over authenticity.<\/p>\n

The backlash<\/a> even became a talking point on \u201cThe View,\u201d with Whoopi Goldberg saying it\u2019s a fantasy world. \u201cThere are not any dragons. There are not any hobbits. Are you telling me Black people can\u2019t be fake people too?\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Amazon also released an announcement, noting that Tolkien created a multicultural world \u201cduring which free people from different races and cultures join together, in fellowship, to defeat the forces of evil.\u201d<\/p>\n
