Conor McGregor also pushed to face Frankie Edgar as a substitute opponent<\/h2>\n

Frankie Edgar wasn\u2019t the one fighter who tried to get the UFC to match him up with Conor McGregor on short notice.<\/p>\n

Years after this clash didn\u2019t come together for UFC 189, \u2018The Notorious\u2019 said that he put his name forward to face \u2018The Answer\u2019 in 2018.<\/p>\n

Edgar was scheduled to challenge Max Holloway for the featherweight title, with McGregor claiming in an Instagram post that the UFC turned his offer to \u201ctake out the ultimate featherweight\u201d down.<\/p>\n

Brian Ortega filled Holloway\u2019s place and earned himself a title shot by stopping Edgar via a knockout in the primary round.<\/p>\n
