Islam Makhachev has the prospect to further boost his legacy on MMA\u2019s biggest stage this August.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Last trip, the 34-year-old became the eleventh fighter to win UFC titles across two divisions by adding the welterweight championship to his r\u00e9sum\u00e9.<\/p>\n

Nine months later, Makhachev will face Ian Machado Garry in his first defense of the crown at 170 kilos, as they headline the UFC 330 event in Philadelphia.<\/p>\n

The Irishman is confident of upsetting the chances on the Xfinity Mobile Arena, but Cain Velasquez is expecting more Dagestani domination.<\/p>\n

Cain Velasquez talks up \u2018special athlete\u2019 Islam Makhachev ahead of his UFC 330 title defense<\/h2>\n

Velasquez, who’s regarded by many because the skill-for-skill best heavyweight in UFC history, trained on the American Kickboxing Academy during his profession as an lively fighter.<\/p>\n

On the San Jose facility, Velasquez worked with the likes of Khabib Nurmagomedov, Luke Rockhold, and Daniel Cormier, and his time there also crossed over with Makhachev\u2019s.<\/p>\n

During a recent interview with Red Corner MMA<\/a> in Miami, where Velasquez attended IBA Bare Knuckle 6 alongside Jon Jones, the previous two-time heavyweight champion discussed Makhachev\u2019s successes and future.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a special variety of athlete, as everyone knows,\u201d Velasquez said.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s one among those guys at the head of the game. I check with Javier (Mendez) on a regular basis, and Islam and people guys are at all times doing great. They\u2019re in great hands.<\/p>\n

\u201cI see Islam just continuing to do what he\u2019s been doing, and that\u2019s winning impressively,\u201d he continued. \u201cHe\u2019s any person who has mastered all facets of MMA.\u201d<\/p>\n

Garry will look to avoid the form of fate that befell Jack Della Maddalena when Makhachev moved as much as make his welterweight debut last November.<\/p>\n
