A girl has been arrested and accused of attempting to do a runner from her Spanish hotel without paying her \u00a32,000 bill.<\/p>\n

The Irish woman was detained at Gran Canaria airport after spending two weeks in a lavish resort along with her partner and child.<\/p>\n

Police haven’t released her age, but she appeared in court this morning.<\/p>\n

She had been staying at an unnamed hotel in San Bartolome de Tirajana, with a spokesman for the National Police saying an investigation was launched after the hotel couldn\u2019t get involved along with her.<\/p>\n

\u2018Hotel management reported that a family consisting of two adults and one minor had left the premises after staying for eleven nights on an all-inclusive basis without settling the bill,\u2019 they said.<\/p>\n

The lady had made a reservation through the hotel\u2019s website with a bank card, but when the hotel tried to charge the cardboard after the stay ended, it was declined. <\/p>\n

The police added: \u2018Hotel staff repeatedly attempted to contact the one that had made the reservation so as to resolve the situation.<\/p>\n

\u2018Although she initially stated that she intended to make the payment, claiming she was unable to access her bank card because she was already on the airport, she ultimately ceased all communication without paying the outstanding amount.\u2019<\/p>\n

National Police launched a seek for the Irish woman and located her at Border Control at Gran Canaria Airport, where she was detained. <\/p>\n

\u2018The detainee was taken to the Maspalomas National Police Station for the preparation of the corresponding case file and was subsequently brought before the judicial authorities.\u2019<\/p>\n

The police force added in an announcement: \u2018The National Police stays firmly committed to protecting the Canary Islands\u2019 tourism sector, a key pillar of the archipelago\u2019s economy, by strengthening cooperation with hotels to combat any variety of criminal activity affecting their operations.\u2019<\/p>\n
