WWE appears to be experimenting with a special approach to construct anticipation for considered one of its biggest SummerSlam 2026 matches.<\/p>\n

Saturday Night\u2019s Most important Event at Madison Square Garden closed with a significant tag team bout featuring Cody Rhodes and CM Punk against Sami Zayn and Gunther. The stakes were high, as a victory for Zayn and GUNTHER would have earned them spots within the Undisputed WWE Championship match at SummerSlam 2026. As a substitute, Nick Aldis got involved late in the competition, costing GUNTHER the match and allowing Rhodes and Punk to select up the win.<\/p>\n

Because the two babyfaces were leaving ringside, CM Punk struck Cody Rhodes within the face with the Undisputed WWE Championship. Whether it was an accident or intentional was left unclear, immediately fueling speculation heading into their SummerSlam showdown.<\/p>\n

WWE later uploaded a backstage video that appeared to proceed the story. Within the clip, Punk was ending an interview with Jackie Redmond when Rhodes confronted him, accusing the champion of intentionally hitting him in the attention with the title belt.<\/p>\n

Punk quickly denied the accusation, however the confrontation escalated. Producer Bobby Roode attempted to diffuse the situation, while Trick Williams stepped in to drag Rhodes away before the exchange became much more heated. The segment ended after several expletives were exchanged. WWE left the video online for several hours before quietly removing it from its social media platforms.<\/p>\n

The choice has sparked speculation that WWE is intentionally attempting to blur the road between storyline and reality, creating the impression that the stress between Rhodes and Punk extends beyond the cameras.<\/p>\n
