On July 10, after a number of tense, last-minute exchanges with Buckingham Palace officials, Prince Harry<\/strong>, along together with his wife, Meghan<\/strong> Markle<\/strong>, and their two kids, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, finally reunited together with his father, King Charles III<\/strong>, and stepmother, Queen Camilla<\/strong>, for a face-to-face gathering at Charles\u2019 Highgrove House.<\/p>\n

In line with a source, details of the meeting were fastidiously planned upfront, with privacy being a top priority. \u201cThe staff [at Highgrove] was dismissed before Harry and Meghan and the children arrived,\u201d reveals the source, noting that only a few Charles and Camilla\u2019s closest aides were allowed to stay. \u201cDetails were kept under wraps. They didn\u2019t want anything to get out.\u201d<\/p>\n

The gathering was more low-key family get-together than official sit-down. (Highgrove is Charles\u2019 secluded and relaxed country estate in Gloucestershire.) \u201cCertain topics were off limits,\u201d says the source. Last May, Harry \u2014 who stepped back from royal duties when he and Meghan moved to Montecito, California, in 2020 \u2014 said Charles, 77, wasn\u2019t talking to him due to his unsuccessful legal battle to have his taxpayer-funded security reinstated when he\u2019s within the U.K. \u201cThey [all] agreed beforehand that they’d not discuss any topics making headlines within the press,\u201d adds the source, \u201cincluding the court case.\u201d<\/p>\n

The fundamental focus was Archie and Lilibet. (While Harry, 41, last saw his father during a temporary visit to Clarence House in September 2025, Meghan, 44, and the children hadn\u2019t seen the king since June 2022.) \u201cThe king and queen wanted personal time with their grandchildren, and so they wanted it to be lighthearted and positive,\u201d the source reveals. \u201cThe purpose of the meeting was to spend time with them, and that was the one thing on the agenda,\u201d adds the source, noting that having Archie, 7, and Lilibet, 5, in attendance was a nonnegotiable. Charles and Camilla, 79, \u201cwould only comply with the meeting if the children were coming.\u201d<\/p>\n

The trip almost didn\u2019t occur. After initially announcing in late June that the family planned to move across the pond together, a Sussex rep said on July 4 that Meghan and the kids would travel individually and meet Harry outside London as a result of security concerns. Two days later, Harry claimed his invitation to remain at Buckingham Palace had been abruptly \u201cwithdrawn,\u201d a sentiment the Palace promptly refuted.<\/p>\n

\u201cEvery part the Palace does is planned at the very least two months upfront,\u201d says the source. \u201cThere\u2019s no way they may plan for a guest last minute, and Harry knows that.\u201d (Adding to the drama, it was revealed on July 7 that Harry had lost his $67 million privacy suit against the publisher of the U.K.\u2019s Day by day Mail<\/em>.
