Nine days after announcing his retirement, former quarterback Will Grier<\/strong> has already lined up his next job within the NFL. The 31-year-old is returning to Dallas to affix Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer<\/strong>\u2018s staff as an offensive assistant, Todd Archer of ESPN<\/a> reports.<\/p>\n

This doesn’t come as a surprise, as Grier almost retired after the season to work for Schottenheimer. The North Carolina native delay the inevitable, though, and decided to sign with the Panthers in April. It was the second Panthers stint for Grier, who first joined the team as a third-round pick in 2019. The previous Florida and West Virginia signal-caller remained in Carolina for 2 seasons, but he began just two games (each in his rookie yr) and struggled.<\/p>\n

Grier went just 28 of 52 for 228 yards, no touchdowns and 4 interceptions as Panther. The team cut Grier ahead of the 2021 season, leading the Cowboys to say him on waivers. Grier stayed within the organization for 2 years, but he didn’t see any regular-season motion. He continued to go without regular-season time briefly runs with the Patriots, Bengals, Chargers and Eagles over the subsequent couple of years.<\/p>\n

Grier reunited with the Cowboys in late 2024, Schottenheimer\u2019s second yr as their offensive coordinator, and spent all of last season on their practice squad. Dallas released Grier in March, but it surely is obvious he formed a crucial reference to Schottenheimer over the past couple of years.
