The welterweight champion will return to make his first defense of the 170-pound crown at UFC 330 in Philadelphia on August 15.<\/p>\n

Headlining the event shall be Makhachev\u2019s clash with Ian Machado Garry, who earned his opportunity with consecutive triumphs over Carlos Prates and Belal Muhammad.<\/p>\n

The Dagestani will enter the cage as an enormous favorite against the Irishman. But after quite a few major upsets in 2026 to date, Sean O\u2019Malley is predicting perhaps the most important of the lot to occur at UFC 330.<\/p>\n

Sean O\u2019Malley backs Ian Machado Garry to beat Islam Makhachev at UFC 330<\/h2>\n

Makhachev\u2019s win over Jack Della Maddalena last November saw him develop into the eleventh two-division champion in UFC history.<\/p>\n

The result also put the Dagestani tied with \u2018The Spider\u2019 for the longest winning streak within the promotion at 16.<\/p>\n

Most look to expect Makhachev to maneuver past the Brazilian legend by making it 17 victories in a row next month.<\/p>\n

O\u2019Malley, nevertheless, just isn’t considered one of them.<\/p>\n

\u201cI believe Ian gets it done,\u201d the previous UFC bantamweight champion said in a recent video uploaded to his YouTube<\/a> channel.<\/p>\n

\u201cNot the best way s\u2014\u2019s been going, but I believe Ian\u2019s that f\u2014ing good. He\u2019s so big, he\u2019s so long, and he\u2019s so confident. Then Khabib got here out and said, \u2018Ian\u2019s a tough matchup for us.\u2019 He\u2019s long, he moves well, he moves rather a lot.<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s not going to go in there and get single-legged, easy dumped,\u201d he continued. \u201cHe\u2019s going to scoop back, he\u2019s going to throw, and it\u2019s going to be a difficult fight.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m excited for it. Dagestan vs. Ireland, that is an epic f\u2014ing fight.\u201d<\/p>\n

Garry has acknowledged the challenge ahead of him on the Xfinity Mobile Arena, even going so far as to call it the hardest that any title contender has faced in UFC history.<\/p>\n

Despite that, the Irishman has appeared extremely confident of leaving the Octagon because the newly crowned welterweight king, having handed Makhachev his first loss in 11 years.<\/p>\n
