When an \u201cunidentified sea creature\u201d begins terrorizing his small Newfoundland hometown, \u201cCalvin must fight to carry his close-knit community together.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tThe teaser trailer for Below<\/em> is posted, well, below.<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cDetermined to maintain his son Wade (Charlie Heaton) and the remainder of his family secure, [Calvin] teams up with a visiting marine researcher (Mackenzie Davis) to confront the creature and reveal the island\u2019s buried secrets before it\u2019s too late,\u201d the streamer\u2019s synopsis continues. \u201cMixing local myth, thrilling suspense, and heartfelt humour, this twisty six-part limited series dives into themes of family, community, and alter \u2014 each terrifying and inevitable.\u201d<\/p>\n \n\tRemember, this can be a Canadian thing \u2014 in order that \u201chumour\u201d isn’t any typo.<\/p>\n \n\tThe press materials for Below<\/em> specify that the series is not<\/em> supernatural. So there\u2019s, like, an actual sea monster here. Also, the note might be there to indicate the way it is not<\/em> Apple TV\u2019s Widow\u2019s Bay<\/em>. (Not that there\u2019s anything improper with that: Widow\u2019s Bay<\/em> recently received 19 Primetime Emmy Award nominations, probably the most for any latest series.) Either way, you\u2019re probably going to wish to stay out of the waters north of the Jersey Shore this 12 months \u2014 especially when the fog rolls in.<\/p>\n \n\tJesse McKeown is the creator and showrunner of Below<\/em>. He executive produces with Harnett, Jessica Rhoades\u00a0(through her company Pacesetter), Chris Hatcher, Jamie Childs, Louise Sutton and Sharon Hall. Below<\/em>, filed on location in St. John\u2019s, Newfoundland, Canada, also stars Ruby Stokes, Kaleb Horn, Rohan Campbell and Willow Kean.<\/p>\n \n\tBelow<\/em> will open TIFF\u2019s (again, Canadian) 2026 primetime program on Sept. 10 \u2014 its world premiere.
