Rural communities in southwestern Japan were struggling to get their lives back to normal Thursday, two days after\u00a0a strong earthquake\u00a0set off an explosion at a mall, toppled a factory chimney and flattened homes, killing a minimum of 25 people.<\/p>\n

Time was running out to seek out survivors, as rescuers continued to work within the Kumamoto area on\u00a0Japan\u2019s southern foremost island of Kyushu, where the magnitude 7.1 earthquake hit Tuesday.<\/p>\n

The variety of those missing was unclear. Of the deaths given in the most recent tally, 25 have been confirmed as related to the disaster, but there have been nine more deaths under investigation as more likely to be connected, the Kumamoto prefectural government said. The quake left a minimum of 86 people injured, five of them seriously, it said.<\/p>\n

Survivors spoke about coming home and desperately pulling relations out of the wreckage. Some had suffered injuries and were rushed to the hospital.<\/p>\n

Yoshiaki Nakashima, a 66-year-old resident who got here with two bottles and his beloved pet dog to get water, said he’s staying in a automobile due to his reluctance to remain at one in all the three evacuation centers in the realm. Risks of heatstroke are a significant concern amongst officials.<\/p>\n

Yutaka Kobayashi, a physician dispatched from central Japan\u2019s Aichi prefecture, said he was touring evacuation centers Thursday to evaluate the condition of evacuees, especially elderly people and people with injuries as they deal with a harsh environment.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe’ve to be sure elderly people should not developing heatstrokes or dehydration,\u201d he said in Hikawa.<\/p>\n
