1000’s of migrants from Morocco have swarmed a Spanish beach in north Africa and overwhelmed police attempting to stop them from crossing.<\/p>\n

Migrants are \u2018massively entering from the ocean\u2019 into Spain\u2019s North African enclave of Ceuta on Thursday, the Guardia Civil said.<\/p>\n

The region\u2019s government has begged Madrid to deploy the military and shut the Moroccan border, warning a \u2018total humanitarian and social emergency\u2019 is going down.<\/p>\n

State television TVE said that 2,000 to three,000 youths had crossed into Spain by sea, with some reportedly scaling the border fence.<\/p>\n

Images showed migrants paddling from Morocco into Ceuta using inflatable inner tubes and other flotation devices.<\/p>\n

Video also showed crowds shouting \u2018Long live Spain\u2019 as they rushed into the territory.<\/p>\n

The president of Ceuta, Juan Jesus Vivas, said: \u2018We’re in a situation of total humanitarian and social emergency.<\/p>\n

\u2018Up to now few days greater than 1,500 migrants, each adults and minors, have come to Ceuta by sea.<\/p>\n

\u2018The reception centres are saturated\u00a0\u2013 there isn’t any more room for anyone in them and in accordance with yesterday\u2019s figures the number of individuals entering is greater than 200 a day.\u2019<\/p>\n

Ceuta, together with Spanish city Melilla, represents the EU\u2019s only land border with Africa.<\/p>\n

Each regions have faced occasional influxs of migrants trying to achieve Europe.<\/p>\n

This rush appears to be on an analogous scale to 1 that occurred in May 2021, when some 10,000 Moroccan and sub-Saharan youths entered the enclave in days<\/p>\n

Spain\u2019s Supreme Court ruled earlier this month that \u2060migrants intercepted at sea \u200bwhile attempting to achieve Ceuta or Melilla can’t be summarily returned under the enclaves\u2019 special border-rejection regime.<\/p>\n

The Guardia Civil spokesperson told Reuters: \u2018It has been a slow trickle because the Supreme Court\u2019s ruling, but today has been an explosion.\u2019<\/p>\n

Spain\u2019s Interior Ministry said it was working closely with Morocco to handle the surge in migrants.<\/p>\n

They blamed people-smuggling networks for exploiting the Supreme Court\u2019s ruling to encourage undocumented migration.<\/p>\n
