\u2060Russia \u2060pounded Kyiv with ballistic missiles this morning, killing not less than nine people and wounding 28 others, including 4 children.<\/p>\n

The Ukrainian Air Force raised the alarm<\/a> over the missiles at around 1.30am local time. <\/p>\n

Kyiv military officials asked <\/a>civilians to duck into their nearest shelter only a minute later, with Kyiv mayor Vitali Klitschko reporting<\/a> \u2018explosions\u2019.<\/p>\n

Images posted<\/a> by photographer Yan Dobronosov show wounded people lying on the streets, with cars gutted by the explosions and fires. <\/p>\n

\u2018Some residents of Kyiv didn’t even have time to succeed in the shelter,\u2019 Dobronosov said.<\/p>\n

One in all the blasts caused a fireplace in a six-story constructing within the Solomyanskyi district, Volodymyr Zelensky said on the social media network X.<\/p>\n

Since last night, response efforts have been underway in Kyiv and the encircling region following Russia\u2019s strike. There have been quite a few fires across town. \u2018There have been many fires in town \u2013 seven districts were affected. And, as usual, the Russians hit atypical residential buildings,\u2019 he added.<\/p>\n

\u2018Eighteen houses, a faculty, the Lithuanian embassy and infrastructure facilities were damaged.\u2019<\/p>\n

Two people died within the Solomianskyi blaze that also injured eight, including two children.<\/p>\n

People were also trapped in a burning constructing in Shevchenko and debris flattened non-residential buildings in Holosiivske and Darnytske.<\/p>\n

Some five years since Russia\u2019s war against Ukraine began, Zelensky\u00a0warned the country\u2019s air defence system is dwindling.<\/p>\n

And Moscow knows this, the president added, with Russia launching dozens of aerial assaults this summer.<\/p>\n

Zelensky said that because the country has only a number of Patriot interceptors \u2013 the one kind that may cope with Kremlin-built missiles \u2013 it’s \u2018encouraging Russia to launch attacks that take human lives\u2019.<\/p>\n

\u2018It’s critical that partners hear that these capabilities are needed not somewhere in stockpiles for hypothetical scenarios, but here and now, to contain and stop the Russian war in Ukraine.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u2018Every package of ballistic missile interceptors saves the lives of our people. And each night without them ends in more casualties. I thank everyone who’s working to strengthen our defences.\u2019<\/p>\n

That is the second major attack on Kyiv this week after\u00a0missiles killed nine people, including six members of 1 family, on \u200bThursday.<\/p>\n

Throughout the attack, a Russian cruise missile also entered the airspace of Nato member Poland. <\/p>\n

Polish officials described <\/a>it as an \u2018unidentified object\u2019 that caused a 9-metre-wide crater in a field within the country\u2019s southeast.<\/p>\n

Only the US could make Patriot interceptor missiles, so Ukraine has asked Washington to grant it a licence to make its own. <\/p>\n

US President Donald Trump, who vowed to finish the Russia-Ukraine war \u2018on day one\u2019 of his re-election, said talks for this are still \u2018ongoing\u2019 on Friday.<\/p>\n

Washington, he cautioned, needed to be \u2018very careful about letting anyone construct them\u2019.<\/p>\n

He added: \u2018\u00a0We\u2019re talking about it, however it\u2019s a tough thing to provide away that form of technology. And I don\u2019t think this is able to ever occur, but, you realize, there\u2019s folks that you give that technology, they’ll someday activate you.\u2019<\/p>\n
