England have endured a disappointing run in Test cricket, suffering back-to-back series defeats to Recent Zealand at home and Australia away. <\/span><\/p>\n They currently sit seventh within the 2025-27 World Test Championship (WTC) standings on the halfway stage of the cycle. Fleming is ready to take charge as England\u2019s Test head coach after the upcoming home series against Pakistan, with Marcus Trescothick serving as interim coach for that project.<\/span><\/p>\n Joe Root expressed his excitement after being re-appointed as England\u2019s Test captain, saying he’s desperate to work alongside recent head coach Stephen Fleming to create a successful team environment. The veteran batter stays England\u2019s highest run-scorer in Test cricket, having amassed 14,114 runs, including a national record 41 centuries.<\/span><\/p>\n Speaking about his return as Test captain, Root said (via the ECB):<\/span><\/p>\n \u201cIt’s a terrific honour and privilege to be asked to be England Men\u2019s Test captain again.
