Luke Littler and Michael van Gerwen suffered a rather awkward misunderstanding on the Premier League Darts.
The pair were facing off again in Newcastle and it was the Dutchman who got here out the victor over again.
Littler, the 17-year-old sensation, can have been gutted to lose, having come back from 5-3 all the way down to force a decider before Van Gerwen won the ultimate leg 6-5.
When Littler made it 5-5, Van Gerwen stuck out a fist for the teenager to bump before the ultimate leg, but his opponent didn’t see it.
When a replay of the incident was shown, Sky commentator Wayne Mardle said: “Oh wow he got left hanging badly there.”
Nevertheless, any idea it was intentional was wiped away at the tip of the sport.
Van Gerwen won in stunning fashion by hitting two double 18s from three darts, and celebrated in classic fashion, pumping his arms and fists while yelling to the group.
Littler just looked to the side and laughed as he couldn’t consider what he’d just seen.
Van Gerwen then turned and grinned at his opponent, and so they shared a warm hug and handshake.
Mardle finished: “Van Gerwen gives it the biggun and I believe they enjoyed it, it’s possibly a rivalry we are going to see for the subsequent decade.”
The win brought a final against Nathan Aspinall, and the group were loving it.
Amongst them were members of the Newcastle United squad, with Matt Targett, Harvey Barnes and Dan Burn seen grinning on the cameras.
