David Morrell riled up David Benavidez’s fans by saying on social media that he only knows the best way to “eat tacos” and “can’t speak Spanish.” These comments ignited a hearth under Benavidez’s fans, who trashed the talented Cuban, saying he’d knock him out for his insolence.

Many consider the ‘Mexican Monster’ will certainly knock Morrell out, but that may not be true. Benavidez has turn out to be a special fighter since moving as much as 175; his power isn’t there for this weight class.

Light heavyweight is kryptonite for Benavidez. He’s gone from Superman to only a median volume puncher, and he could have problems against a real 175-pounder like Morrell. The 2 fighters will meet in 23 days on PBC on Prime Video PPV on the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Belly Battle

Morrell’s remarks about Benavidez’s eating habits were a response to his delicate condition during their first face-to-face. Benavidez had a potbelly on the time and looked like a long-haul truck driver, accustomed to eating on the road at greasy food joints. That potbelly was worse than Tyson Fury’s.

Thankfully, Benavidez appears to have lost the burden. Interestingly, it had only been six months since his last fight against Oleksandr Gvozdyk on June fifteenth when he began promoting his February 1st clash against Morrell. How on this planet could Benavidez pack on that much weight in half a 12 months? He must really let himself go in between fights to get that fat.

Obviously, Benavidez can’t keep letting his body get off form like that in the long run because he’s not going to have much of a profession if he can’t make 175 or if he’s forced to empty himself to make weight. He was already looking skeletal when he made weight for his debut at 175 last summer, and that was a foul sign.

If Benavidez is already killing himself to make weight at light heavyweight, he won’t be there for long before he’s forced to maneuver as much as cruiserweight and compete against IBF champion Jai Opetaia.

It’s comprehensible why WBA ‘regular’ light heavyweight champion Morrell (11-0, 9 KOs) commented on Benavidez’s Spanish because he revealed that he was having problems understanding him. Morrell’s fast way of speaking had Benavidez unable to follow.

“I’m ready for February 1st. Viva Mexico, you guys. Benavidez can’t even speak Spanish,” said David Morrell on social media. “He knows the best way to eat tacos and crap. May the most effective man win.”
