Trudeau in Paris for AI summit as Trump set to announce latest tariffs – National

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is in Paris Monday for a world summit on artificial intelligence, as U.S. president Donald Trump is anticipated to announce steel and aluminum tariffs on Canada.

Trump said Sunday he’ll formally announce 25 per cent tariffs on all steel and aluminum imports on Monday, including from Canada.

In an interview with Fox News, Trump also said again he desires to see Canada grow to be a U.S. state, after being asked about Trudeau’s comments on Friday during which Trudeau told a bunch of business leaders that Trump shouldn’t be joking.

U.S. Vice President JD Vance can be in Paris for the AI Motion Summit, which begins Monday.

It’s unclear whether the 2 will meet, as no meeting has been announced up to now.

Each Canada and Mexico were granted a minimum of 30-day reprieves from the Trump’s broad-based tariff threat being realized just last week.
