It’s fair to say, leading as much as Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl halftime performance, there was absolute confidence ‘Not Like Us’ was going to be played. ‘Uncle Sam,’ played by Samuel L. Jackson opened up the performance with the road “That is the good American game!” A double entendre you could’t ignore. The Super Bowl may be very much the great American game, however the subtle reference is a double entendre to the introduction of underlying themes that touches on American politics, culture, capitalism, race and more. Throughout the performance, Jackson acts as a conscious, or “owner” of sorts — each warning and praising Lamar because the show plays out.
