Daniel Cormier surprisingly defends Jon Jones after bizarre Instagram Live session goes viral

UFC Hall of Famer Daniel Cormier reacted to a bizarre clip of Jon Jones that made the rounds on social media.

UFC heavyweight champion Jon Jones and former titleholder Daniel Cormier will likely never fully see eye-to-eye after their famous rivalry within the Octagon. Years faraway from their UFC 214 clash, tensions remain regular between Cormier and Jones, despite Cormier leaving MMA in 2020.

As Jones is in lively negotiations with the UFC for his potential return to the cage, he’s having fun with some quality time along with his family and friends. Jones most recently defended the heavyweight title against Stipe Miocic at UFC 309 in November following a protracted hiatus.

Fans were surprised when Jones went survive Instagram within the early morning hours last week.

“You get p—ed off, disenchanted. And as a Dad, you only need to kill them,” Jones said within the below video.

Fans grew increasingly concerned about Jones after the Instagram Live session was re-shared on several distinguished platforms. In a since-deleted tweet, Jones apologized for the bizarre outburst.

“Sorry, was just getting crazy. I’m done over it,” Jones posted on X.

Daniel Cormier weighed in on bizarre Jon Jones stream that had fans concerned

During a recent episode of Funky and the Champ, Cormier made a rare defense of Jones after the clip went viral online.

“I don’t like being supportive [of Jon Jones],” Cormier said of Jones. “Jon Jones was walking down the road, saying some crazy stuff about his kid…if he was on vacation, haven’t all of us been there? Perhaps not that extreme, but our children drive us crazy. And what the worst part is? While you return to that hotel room, you’re the bad guy! Everyone’s going to make it such as you’re the bad guy for being upset…

“I don’t need to defend him, but come on…haven’t all of us been there?”

After fans were initially concerned about Jones’ mental state as he stays in talks with UFC brass, Cormier and others imagine the clip was overblown online. As of this writing, it stays uncertain what or who Jones was referring to within the clip.

This isn’t the primary time Cormier has taken a distinct approach to his long-standing feud with Jones. Cormier admitted Jones was the toughest hitter he faced in his Hall of Fame profession after their two legendary bouts.

Jon Jones vs. Tom Aspinall fight negotiations remain within the works

Jones is in talks to face Tom Aspinall in a heavyweight title unification bout later this 12 months. However the fight stays uncertain, especially after Jones expressed interest in facing Alex Pereira next as an alternative of Aspinall.

Aspinall earned the interim heavyweight title by knocking out Sergei Pavlovich at UFC 295. Jones was alleged to headline the cardboard against Miocic before withdrawing resulting from injury.

Aspinall has since defended the interim belt against Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304, and is now holding out for a shot on the lineal championship. If UFC CEO Dana White and Jones don’t make progress soon, Jones could potentially be stripped of the title.

Jones vs. Aspinall is unquestionably the most important fight the UFC could make in 2025. But as talks proceed, speculation continues to swirl regarding the longer term of the heavyweight title picture.
