Latest Zealand’s Glenn Phillips opened up on his recent performances in ODI cricket. Since arriving in Pakistan, the all-rounder has been in stellar form scoring 215 runs in 4 games which incorporates a quickfire fifty against the hosts in Kiwis’ opening game on the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
Phillips’ power-packed innings played an enormous role as Latest Zealand went on to secure their first win within the group stage by taking a 60-run win over Pakistan in Karachi. After the win, the all-rounder explained the things which have worked for him in ODI cricket.
“I’m just really clear in the mean time, I’m seeing the ball well and I assume being still at the purpose of contact. I believe that goes a great distance in with the ability to be a hitter,” he said, as per ESPNCricinfo.
Batting first at Karachi, the Kiwis put up a mammoth 320/5 total with centuries from Will Young and Tom Latham. But Phillips also had his moments with the bat towards the top of the primary innings, scoring a fast 39-ball 61. He smashed three boundaries and 4 sixes before losing his wicket to Haris Rauf. Within the previous three games of the Pakistan Tri-Nation Series 2025, the 28-year-old had unbeaten scores of 106, 28 and 20.
Phillips explained why Latest Zealand batters were held back before his partnership with Tom Latham.“I believe we’ve played a special pitch and it’s played a special way each time we’ve been here [Karachi],” he said.
“The pacers I believe were harder to play within the day when the ball was going up and down loads,” he added.
The all-rounder also credited Pakistan’s bowlers who proved to be a challenge within the early stages of the primary innings within the Champions Trophy opener.
“I believe throughout the day the way in which the Pakistan boys bowled, especially at the highest, made it quite tough for us to get away early on,” Phillips noted.
“I believe we’ve been adaptable to different varieties of pitches, and it was nice to see some turn on the market within the evening,” he concluded.
Latest Zealand are next scheduled to play Bangladesh in Rawalpindi on February 24. Their final group match might be against India on March 2. The Black Caps must proceed to adapt of their remaining fixtures to make the semi-final stage. They’ve already made a solid start in that direction.
