Sportsnet: Elliotte Friedman on how things played out between Brad Marchand and the Boston Bruins that led to his trade to the Florida Panthers.

Ron MacLean: “And, yeah, I’d say Elliotte, as much as (Mikko) Rantanen was the large name and the large deal, that was something.”
Friedman: “I still can’t imagine it really. Like Katie Engleson who’s the sideline reporter, rinkside reporter for the Panthers. She sounded a tweet of a Brad Marchand stall within the Panthers dress room. I used to be like, This looks so improper. I can’t imagine I’m even seeing this.
NHL Injuries: Saturday the eighth
So just just a few more things I desired to go over from the Marchand situation. Primary, I believe the Bruins and the player had agreed on term. Three years. But as Don Sweeney said yesterday, there was a niche. And there was a niche on AAV. And I don’t think he was being asked to take a pay cut or anything like that, but I do think it was a large gap that they obviously couldn’t bridge.
Where I believe this really went sideways was there was some extent this week where Brad Marchand, who was currently injured and never within the lineup, asked for a face-to-face meeting with Bruins management. I don’t know exactly when it was. I don’t know exactly who was there. But it surely did occur, and in that meeting, Brad Marchand asked for a compromise. He said, I’ll compromise. I’ll bend on a few of my ask. I’m asking the Bruins to bend on a few of their stance, and we’ll discover a strategy to get this deal done because he desired to stay as a Bruin. And it just didn’t occur. The Bruins had gone so far as they were willing to go
And look, anybody out here watching hockey within the hockey world has watched Brad Marchand play, we all know he’s going to the Hall of Fame for one major reason. He’s got an incredible amount of pride, and he puts the whole lot on the road. I believe he was really stung by that. After which abruptly, the Bruins began to look okay, we’re not going to go any farther. We’re going to start out looking there.
And I believe one in every of the things that actually happened within the last 24 to 48 hours before the deadline was that Marchand’s agent, and I used to be told by several teams, Wade Arnott, made it very clear that Marchand had a spot he desired to go, and clearly that was Florida. After which the last minutes, the Bruins acquiesced and made the deal.
NHL Rumors: The Toronto Maple Leafs May Have Been Close To Landing Mikko Rantanen
But so, that’s the whole lot I understand there, and I believe it really hurt Marchand that the face-to-face meeting couldn’t get a deal done.
