Liverpool have been dealt a significant injury blow ahead of their Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United after Trent Alexander Arnold was forced off against Paris Saint-Germain.
Arne Slot’s side crashed out of the Champions League on Tuesday night after a penalty shootout defeat to the French champions who march onto the quarter-finals where they are going to tackle Aston Villa or Club Brugge.
Alexander-Arnold was forced off after 73 minutes on Merseyside, appearing to jar his knee as he slid in to challenge Vitinha.
The England international received treatment on the pitch before making way for Jarell Quansah.
Liverpool suffered one other blow in extra-time with Ibrahima Konate unable to proceed, making way for Endo Wataru.

With the Carabao Cup final just five days away, Slot confirmed his right-back is now more likely to miss out at Wembley for the second season in a row.
Slot said in his post-match press conference: ‘He had to come back off, that’s never a great sign.

‘And from what I heard from those that saw the photographs of how he got injured, that didn’t do superb. So I could be surprised if he’s [available] for Sunday.’
Slot offered a rather brighter outlook on Konate’s availability, believing his centre-half was combating fatigue reasonably than an injury late on.
‘I actually have to ask but for me Ibou was more that he was drained than it was an injury,’ Slot said.

Alexander-Arnold also missed last season’s Carabao Cup final, amongst the various absentees that afternoon because the Reds saw off Chelsea at Wembley.
In an extra blow to their plans, Liverpool will even be without Alexander-Arnold’s deputy Conor Bradley, who continues to be recovering from injury.
Newcastle even have an inventory of absentees to contend with on Sunday.
Anthony Gordon will miss out in consequence of the red card he picked up within the FA Cup defeat to Brighton while Lewis Hall has been ruled out for the remaining of the season.
Sven Botman can be ruled out with the trip down south also coming too soon for injured skipper Jamaal Lascelles.
