Sami Sheen is reflecting on her rocky relationship with dad Charlie Sheen.
“My whole childhood, I would like to say just like the first 13 years, my dad was very out and in of my life,” Sami, 21, said on the Monday, April 14, episode of Gia Giudice’s “Casual Chaos” podcast. “It was the worst if we had an event and he said he was going to point out up after which we wouldn’t hear from him or he would show up, like, 10 hours late. So we sort of just stopped asking him to come back to stuff.”
Sami alleged that if Charlie, 59, showed up they usually were “lucky enough to see him,” he was “probably under the influence of something.”
“It’s sad but I make humor out of it,” she said. “I literally cannot let you know one memory from my childhood of him where he’s been sober. Which is sort of sad, but whatever, it’s his alternative.”
Sami is the eldest daughter of Charlie and Denise Richards, who were married from 2002 to 2006. The exes are also parents to daughter Lola, 19. (Richards, 54, adopted Eloise, 13, in 2011.)
When asked whether her parents’ split was a “difficult time,” Sami claimed that she doesn’t “remember.”

“My mom hid a lot stuff from me. Like there was one 12 months, I used to be, like, asking where my dad was on Christmas. My mom told us he was skiing, but he was actually in jail,” Sami claimed. “I don’t know if he actually went to jail or if he was on his strategy to jail. Something with him in jail, but I assumed he was skiing. And I used to be like, ‘That’s weird. My dad doesn’t even know how you can ski.’ But I used to be so young. So I actually don’t have that many memories of stuff after I was younger. And I feel my mom did a very good job of, sort of, hiding stuff.”
Sami alleged that she doesn’t “know the entire story” but claimed her dad was not in jail for “long in any respect.” (Charlie was arrested in Colorado in December 2009 on second-degree assault, menacing and criminal mischief in an alleged dispute with then-wife Brooke Mueller, USA Today reported. The subsequent 12 months, Charlie pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge and was ordered to spend 30 days in rehab as a part of the plea deal. The 2 other charges were dropped. He was also ordered to 3 months probation and 36 hours of domestic violence counseling.)
Sami claimed that the parents of her friends would sometimes not allow them into her family home due to Charlie.
“That was pretty hard,” she said. “Nevertheless it was truthfully, it was all I knew. It might have been rather a lot harder if I went from having an ideal family after which impulsively he’s a crazy drug addict and we don’t get to see him. So it sort of helps that it’s all I do know, but it surely still sucks.”
Apart from her friends, Sami alleged that Charlie’s actions affected her admission into certain high schools.
“No highschool would accept me due to, like, stuff my dad has posted up to now about like previous schools that I went to. In order that was one thing where I still hold a grudge,” Sami said. “I mean, every thing happens for a reason, but yeah, that one was really difficult, like, the way it affected even the colleges I used to be in a position to go to.”
She continued, “I used to be similar to, ‘Why are they not accepting my applications? Like I actually have straight A’s, I’m a fantastic student.’ I remember my mom had to put in writing a letter on his behalf and, like, try every thing she could to get us into these schools, but I had no idea until afterward. I’m like, ‘In order that’s why I didn’t get in.’ And, like, it truthfully is actually nice hearing that it wasn’t my fault that I didn’t get in.”
Richards, for her part, weighed in on her girls’ relationship with their father during an exclusive interview with Us Weekly in March.
“It’s been [complicated] from day one and each girls are finding their path in the connection and that’s OK,” Richards shared before the premiere of Denise Richards and Her Wild Things. “Things will be up and down, but you possibly can all the time get through it.”
