Wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan is representing Sunrisers Hyderabad in IPL 2025 and scored a century in his first match for the franchise.

Ishan Kishan is on a mission to earn back his place within the Indian cricket team. The wicketkeeper-batter was snubbed by the BCCI from its annual contract list last 12 months after he skipped domestic cricket for Jharkhand. There was loads of controversy behind the choice especially since Ishan had pulled out midway from India’s tour of South Africa in December citing travel fatigue.
Ishan later opened up on the ‘tough’ phase of his profession vowing to remain in the current and keep giving his best. Later in 2024, he released by his IPL franchise Mumbai Indians ahead of the mega auction where Sunrisers Hyderabad signed him for a mammoth Rs 11.25 crore.
There was high anticipation around his inclusion within the power-packed batting lineup of SRH that already boasted of the likes of Abhishek Sharma, Heinrich Klaasen and Travis Head.
And Ishan didn’t disappoint as on SRH debut in IPL 2025, he blasted a century in a high-scoring contest which his team went on to win.
In an interview with IPL broadcaster JioHotstar, Ishan has opened up on his first impressions of the franchise. “I used to be quite attached to Mumbai Indians because I used to be with them for seven years. I got goosebumps after joining SRH, the whole lot was orange. It is a latest experience. The atmosphere is totally different from what I used to be expecting. There’s calmness, clarity and everybody may be very helpful. I’m loving it,” Ishan said.
To this point, Ishan has scored 136 runs in six innings for SRH at a strike-rate of 174.35.
When asked about his favourite player growing up and today, Ishan said, “I never had anybody favourite player. It was all the time a bunch of players. Once I was 18, it was Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh, Sachin (Tendulkar) sir. Today, my favourite is Virat Kohli.”
Ishan counts Abhishek Sharma, Abhinav Manohar and Zeeshan Ansari amongst his favourite SRH teammates.
The 26-year-old also talked about his favourite food. “It’s all the time biryani. Wherever I am going, If I’m feeling good, I order biryani. If I’m feeling bad, I order biryani,” he said.
