Delhi Capitals beat Rajasthan Royals in the primary super over of IPL 2025, played on Wednesday (April 16) at Arun Jaitley Stadium.

Delhi Capitals chased down the goal of 12 runs in 4 balls on Wednesday (April 16) to win the primary super over of IPL 2025. Within the match played against Punjab Kings at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi, the house team restricted the Men in Pink for just 11 runs within the one-over face-off after which, due to KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs, chased down the goal with two balls to spare.
The win over RR was DC’s fourth win in five super overs played to date in IPL history, and with that, the Delhi-based franchise broke Punjab Kings record of winning essentially the most super overs on this planet’s richest franchise cricket league. The Mohali-based franchise has three wins in 4 IPL super overs.
The hero of DC’s win over RR on Wednesday was Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc. The legendary left-arm pacer first successfully defended nine runs in the ultimate over of the run chase after which only conceded 11 runs within the super over. For his super show with the ball, he won the Player of the Match award.
Within the match, which Rajasthan Royals was winning for nearly all of the second half, Starc dismissed Nitish Rana. The left-handed batter was trapped in front of the wickets by Starc on the fourth ball of the 18th over of the run chase.
Rana top-scored for the Sanju Samson-led side within the match. After coming to bat at No. 4, he faced 28 balls and, with the assistance of six fours and two sixes, scored 51 runs. Other than him, opening batter Yashasvi Jaiswal also scored 51 runs. The Mumbai-based cricketer, who was retained for Rs 18 crore by RR ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auctions, added 61 runs for the primary wicket with Sanju Samson (31 runs from 19 balls).
Earlier in the primary half, Abishek Porel top-scored for Axar Patel & Co. The left-handed wicketkeeper-batter hammered 49 runs from 37 balls. He was ably supported by KL Rahul, who made 38 runs from 32 balls, and Axar smacked 34 runs from just 14 balls.
