Reporter: “To the necessity for this organization, it might appear, and from what you’ve said, it looks like you actually need to have it work out with Petey (Elias Pettersson). That said, his no-trade protection kicks in on July 1st. So are you open to potentially moving him, in case you think that, that’s the most effective plan of action for this team? Whether it’s listening to a proposal, whether it’s potentially shopping him, or are you able to definitively say you’re not going to trade him at this point, he’s going to be back next 12 months.”
NHL Rumors: Vancouver Canucks, and Five Potential Offer Sheets
Patrik Allvin: “Well, sitting here today, I definitely need to keep all my options open. Saying that, regarding Petey, we still consider in him, but I could be, I assume, silly not to maintain my options open because we’re sitting here. However the talent now we have with (Filip) Chytil and him, we still consider that they’re talented enough to change into good players on this league.
But whenever you move away from a player as J.T. Miller, probably one in all the higher shutdown forwards within the league, and hard to play against, as Jim said, you don’t replace him, and that was never our intention to after we signed J.T. We were very intrigued by this center ice. So obviously, there’s labor here with the scouting staff and analytics and my coaching staff as well, on methods to construct a competitive roster.”

Rutherford on Pettersson: “He’s going to must buy into being a whole player. He’s going to must buy into working hard – we all know that he’s working hard, but he’s going to must do that each one summer. He’s going to must buy into what the coach wants him to do, and part of shopping for in is being a whole player if you would like to have a contending team. He’s got the flexibility to do it. Just got to purchase into it and prepare properly within the off season.”
NHLRumors.com Note: The Vancouver Canucks wish to make Elias Pettersson into the player he was in his rookie season. There was a rift between him and J.T. Miller this season. It goes back several years now. Nonetheless, it got here to a head this season after each players signed eight-year deals to remain in Vancouver and win.
There’s a great likelihood that neither player will remain with the team. Just like the Cory Schneider and Roberto Luongo situation years ago. Remember the Canucks tried to maneuver Pettersson out before the deadline and before the Miller trade. Even going back to last season before the extension was signed the Canucks tried to maneuver on from him.

Though management believes in Pettersson, they need him to be a whole player and have higher practice habits. The Vancouver Canucks should not going anywhere unless Elias Pettersson is driving the bus. But when a deal comes on the table that permits them to get the precise players back in return, management will consider it. Again, like with the Miller trade, they should not winning an Elias Pettersson deal.
