Is it time for the Recent Jersey Devils to start out excited about changing up their core a bit? That is likely to be something their next GM has to think about
The Sheet with Jeff Marek: Greg Wyshynski on the Recent Jersey Devils and the way there must be some change to their core this offseason.
“There’s something to be said in regards to the core that he put his trust in, and the incontrovertible fact that that core only produced two playoff appearances, once with Jack and once without Jack when he was injured.
And I got to be honest with you, the more I talked to people last and the more I type of contemplated it. You understand what I kept, who I kept excited about? Jonathan Huberdeau.
I kept excited about Jonathan Huberdeau because there got here a degree within the Florida Panthers maturation as a franchise, wherein there was a possibility to accumulate Matthew Tkachuk. He wanted to return to Florida. He was available. That they had to ante as much as get him, and boy, did they, on the time, trading away their leading scorer and one in all their best defensemen for Matthew Tkachuk. And it had a transformative effect on the complete organization, from a swagger perspective and from a way they play perspective.
Could the Recent Jersey Devils Consider Trading Nico Hischier this Offseason?
Now, could which have happened in the event that they, if the Devils had gotten Quinn Hughes? Who’s to say. But you concentrate on a player like Brady Tkachuk, for instance. Who may or may not develop into available on this offseason. And also you say to yourself, what would the associated fee of acquisition be for Brady Tkachuk?
And very like the Canucks did with Quinn Hughes, it probably starts with Nico Hischier. And the more I give it some thought, Marek, the more I say to myself, as much as I really like Nico, and as much as I feel Nico is your quintessential number two center on a championship team, the core has got to alter.
Something’s got to provide here. Like they should not only change management, but all the other stuff that can be happening is type of cosmetic, absent from changing the composition of your core, and, more importantly, changing the best way you play. They’re easy to play against. They’re a rush team. They’re a rattling good rush team, but they’re not physical. They’re not built necessarily for playoff success. They don’t have the type of DNA that a Brady Tkachuk could give them.
