AEW and NJPW have officially confirmed that Forbidden Door will happen in San Jose, though a brand new report suggests the event was initially targeted for a unique city.
The businesses announced on Wednesday that AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door is about for June 28 on the SAP Center in San Jose, California. Nevertheless, a report from Bodyslam+ notes that the unique plan was to host the show elsewhere.
Per the report, AEW had its sights set on Chicago for the crossover pay-per-view event. Those plans reportedly modified on account of scheduling conflicts, as Recent Japan Pro Wrestling shall be running the opening night of the G1 Climax 36 in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, a suburb of Chicago. NJPW officials reportedly felt that the 2 events can be too close together on the calendar.
One other source claimed that AEW strategically timed the announcement to coincide with recent activity on the San Jose venue, noting that WWE held an episode of WWE SmackDown on the SAP Center just last week.
As in previous years, Forbidden Door will feature talent from AEW, NJPW, CMLL, and STARDOM. No matches have been announced up to now.
Before that, AEW will present Double or Nothing 2026 on May 24, emanating from Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens, Recent York.
