Roy Jones Jr offers to coach Justin Gaethje for fight against Topuria
The Spaniard is widely thought to be the very best boxer within the UFC having knocked out Alexander Volkanovski, Max Holloway and Charles Oliveira three fights in a row together with his slick boxing skills.
And ahead of what’s believed to be a particularly tough task for Gaethje, former boxing world champion Roy Jones Jr has offered him some advice on methods to approach his fight against the champion.
“How does Justin Gaethje take care of Ilia Topuria’s striking? He has to learn to take some power off the punch,” Jones Jr told Grovesnor Casino.
“Whether he rolls with it or blocks it just a little bit, you’ve got to learn methods to take the sting off that punch just a little bit, so which you could then fire back and land yours at full velocity. Hitting and getting hit shouldn’t be boxing; that’s fighting.
“If you desire to do it in a boxing manner the true definition of it’s to hit and never get hit.”

Not only has the previous light heavyweight and heavyweight world champion offered his advice, he has also revealed that he can be open to joining Gaethje’s camp for his historic fight.
“Would I help Gaethje prepare? After all I might. I’m not that sort of guy. I offer my help to anybody that believes in God. God gave me a present, and also you’re willing to pay me for my time, in fact, I can provide you with any show you how to need.”
In keeping with Joe Rogan, Topuria may have the best resume in UFC history if he knocks out ‘The Highlight’ on June 14, potentially adding him to the list of legends he has successfully beaten.
One thing is of course, though, irrespective of the results of the lightweight important event, Gaethje will go down as some of the exciting fighters to ever live, leaving his mark on the game.
